Her Story
About Alejandra
My career journey has been an interesting evolution from media to tech. I started working in media, which makes sense because communications runs in my family - my dad was a sports journalist back in Chile. After moving to the United States 25 years ago, I remember using TurboTax for the first time to do my taxes, and that tool made such an impact on me. Eventually, a recruiter reached out looking for my expertise in multicultural marketing to help deliver and promote bilingual products at TurboTax, and that's how I landed at Intuit 10 years ago. Today, I oversee all our influencer creator strategy for TurboTax and am in charge of educational content across all our products. My work is about connecting AI and human intelligence with human expertise to make sure people really understand what they can do with our tools to gain financial freedom. One of my biggest accomplishments was being front and center for two major launches - first, when we launched our products in Spanish (Espanol) around 2023, which was incredibly meaningful given my experience reaching multicultural audiences. It's so important when it comes to finances to have tools available in both languages, especially for underserved communities. My second major accomplishment was leading the launch of our local stores - TurboTax now has nearly 600 locations across the United States where consumers can get in-person help, breaking through that barrier many people feel about being online only. What I love most about my work is that it's constantly evolving. We're always reinventing and improving our products based on consumer pain points. My job allows me to stay close to the consumer and think from their lens, making sure we provide free resources and highlight that we have experts who can help. Education is key to me, and I'm passionate about making financial literacy available starting from high school and college, because no one taught me how to do taxes or budget when I was in school.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think one piece of advice is to really stay curious - constantly ask questions and reach out to people that are in the industry. Don't be afraid to reach out, don't be afraid to ask questions. If this is an area that you're excited about, there are ways you can build relationships, and we can definitely help with introductions. Do as many internships as you can to really understand if that is something you're passionate about. Stay connected - LinkedIn is a great platform. Reach out to people that you admire and ask for introductions. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to do that for you. Attend events, making sure that you have that communication. Technology makes everything so easy now, so even though it might not be an event close by, you can attend virtually. You can attend webinars and look for leaders that you admire, and then reach out to them. Don't be afraid to do that. You might be a listener one day, but another day you're going to be a mentor for someone that just started.
