About Angie
I am a Lead Reporter at Cyber Defense Magazine, where I cover emerging cybersecurity technologies, conduct executive interviews, and write feature articles highlighting innovative solutions across the industry. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance at Western Governors University and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton. I also serve as a Cyber Mentor and Professor’s Assistant at Cypress College’s Cyber Defense Program, where I support the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in developing technical skills. In addition, I have contributed to multiple NASA programs, including the Aerospace Scholars program and the L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy. Through these experiences, I played a key role in mission design, systems engineering, and cybersecurity-focused research, including developing software systems and analyzing mission risks. During my on-site experience at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center, I served as a Systems Engineer where I helped design an AI-driven solution to reduce noise pollution in Advanced Air Mobility operations, presenting our findings to a panel of NASA professionals.
I am passionate about building a more inclusive cybersecurity space, especially for women and Latinas who are still underrepresented in the field. My journey into tech did not begin in cybersecurity, which gives me a unique perspective rooted in psychology and an understanding of the interpersonal and human side of this field. I am deeply driven by growth and a desire to keep evolving, both personally and professionally. That mindset carries into how I live my life. I value living fully and am always seeking new experiences that challenge me and expand my perspective. I am a voracious reader and find joy in creative expression through dance and in spending time outdoors, especially hiking.

Ten minutes with Angie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the love and support I receive from my family and friends. It has played a huge role in building my confidence and encouraging me to reach beyond what I once thought was possible. I see myself as a reflection of that support, carrying forward the light and belief that has been poured into me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to be brave and lead with authenticity. To fully embrace the qualities that set you apart and trust that they are your greatest strength. Do not try to fit into a mold. When you show up as your true self, you open the door to opportunities that are meant for you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest advice is to believe in yourself so loudly that you drown out any self-doubt that might get in the way of your success. Imposter syndrome is a real challenge in this field, especially for women who do not always see themselves represented the way they should. Do not let those doubts define you. Confidence is not about knowing everything; it is about trusting that you are capable of figuring it out. When you truly believe in your abilities and your voice, it changes the way you show up and the experiences that follow.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in cybersecurity right now is how quickly everything is evolving, especially as AI is changing both the threat landscape and how we defend against it. At the same time, that creates a huge opportunity! There is more space now than ever for new perspectives and people from nontraditional backgrounds to step into this field and make an impact. For me, that is the most exciting part. We are not just securing the future, we are actively shaping who gets to be part of it.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value integrity, curiosity, and discipline in both my work and personal life. I believe in doing things with intention and staying open to learning, while holding myself to a high standard. I also value growth through discomfort. The moments that challenge me the most are usually the ones that shape me the most, and I try to lean into that in everything I do.
