April Hamlin is a passionate writer and storyteller, having authored two children’s storybooks, five books of poetry, and five eBooks spanning genres from mystery to fantasy. She is actively transforming her short stories into screenplays and television pilots, reflecting her commitment to bringing her creative visions to life. Currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Playwriting and Screenwriting at Point Park University, April is building on her undergraduate foundation from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She has also honed her craft through programs like the Gotham Writers Workshop, gaining specialized training in TV writing and fiction. Her creative achievements include co-writing and starring in a Pittsburgh 48-hour film, highlighting her ability to blend literary talent with performance. Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, April is deeply involved in community work, supporting the non-profit PEOPLES OAKLAND and participating in charity run-walk events like half marathons and 5Ks. Don't give up no matter what your day brings, stay focused and keep moving forward! It just gets better with time!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering my industry to stay positive, get a solid education, build a strong network, and never give up—even when others doubt your potential.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest opportunities in my field right now is networking. I attend events and try to make connections that I hope to have with me throughout my career journey.

I am April Hamlin, a multifaceted professional with experience spanning entertainment, corporate leadership, and authorship. I am proud to be the author of seven books and five eBooks, sharing stories and insights that reflect my passion for creativity and empowerment.
During my college years in California, I immersed myself in Women’s Studies and proudly identified as a feminist. Those courses helped shape my perspective on equality, leadership, and the power of women supporting one another. Throughout my career, I have experienced life as a woman of color, and I have had the pleasure—and occasional surprise—of reporting to three female bosses, experiences that have profoundly influenced my understanding of leadership and representation.
My mother instilled in me pride in my mixed heritage, and I am passionate about advocating for people of diverse racial backgrounds. I believe in creating opportunities for anyone who is willing and able to work honestly, and I envision a world where homelessness is eradicated, and barriers to employment are removed.
I also recognize the challenges life presents—medical conditions, workplace conflicts, and the unfair actions of others—and I approach these with an open mind. Race, in my view, should never limit opportunity or define character.
Looking ahead, my long-term goal is to launch a talent agency dedicated to entertainment writers, providing guidance, representation, and opportunities to help emerging voices thrive in the industry.
