Leading Without Losing Herself
The balance between ambition, identity, and emotional well-being.
The balance between ambition, identity, and emotional well-being.
One biblical principle that has kept me grounded in business is Galatians 6:9: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." (KJV). Building a business can be filled with seasons where the results aren't immediate, but this verse reminds me that success isn't about constantly proving myself. It's about faithfully serving others, making wise decisions, and trusting God to bring the harvest in His perfect timing.
I've learned that success isn't measured by how much you accomplish, but by whether you can achieve it without compromising your values or losing yourself in the process. The most meaningful leadership comes from lifting others as you climb and staying grounded in purpose, not pressure.
I've learned that growth feels most sustainable when I stop trying to prove my worth and start honoring the way I'm meant to create, lead, and live. Staying grounded means building success without losing the parts of myself that made the work meaningful in the first place.
Shaped by storms. Strengthened by faith. Driven by purpose. The Lord has been my constant through every season of life, and because of that, I stand firmly in this truth. Anything is possible. My trials didn't break me. They built me.
What kept me grounded was remembering that my story (my background, my journey, everything I've lived) is actually my greatest asset, not something to leave behind. I stopped trying to fit a mold and started building a career that could only belong to me: one that weaves together divergent skills, multidisciplinary experience, and the ability to see opportunity in every chapter of life.
I have learned to always remember that you are your own number one cheerleader. Lift your head and walk in the confidence of who you are, regardless of the situation.
No matter the roadblock, big or small, pick yourself up by the bootstraps and persevere. As my idol, Audrey Hepburn would say…. "It's not Impossible, it's I'm Possible!"
For me, staying grounded means knowing my top values, which serve as my north star. When things get hectic, I ground myself in those values and ensure my activities support the growth of those key areas. If the activities causing chaos in my life do not support my career vision or values, I can deprioritize them accordingly. Recognizing stress and where I may also be over-prioritizing in one area versus another is a key element to staying grounded.
I learned to rise with intention, steady like the ocean, clear like my purpose, and unapologetically rooted in the woman Hawaiʻi raised me to be. When I stopped performing for expectations and started leading from truth, success finally felt like something I could carry with both power and grace.
Every time I awaken in this world I submit to handling the challenges the day may bring even when I'm against them, yet I manage to move forward with focus.
Advancement in IT is not about doing more; it is about leading with clarity, discipline, and authenticity. Career growth comes from consistent excellence, intentional development, and lifting others as you rise. Leadership is earned through trust, strategic growth, and a commitment to shared success. Asking for support is strength, boundaries sustain success. For women in the field, the message is clear: know your purpose, protect your boundaries, and lead boldly. You are here to shape the future, not ask for permission.
Sustainable leadership is built on purpose, integrity, and disciplined alignment with your values not the pressure to constantly prove yourself. I have learned that the greatest impact comes from leading with clarity, serving others, and remaining authentic as opportunities and responsibilities grow.
