About Brenda

Brenda Shoshanna is a psychologist who works in the integration of East and West psychology and spirituality. She has done extensive work in interfaith efforts and connecting Zen practice with psychology and religion. She was one of the founders of hospice and now focuses on workshops, books, and programs rather than one-on-one therapy. Her recent book, Sacred Psychology: An Invitation to Live, offers exercises and a healing program. She is developing a YouTube program called Mitzvahs, Mindfulness, and Miracles, and hosts free Zoom groups. She is also a playwright who served as playwright in residence at Ensemble City Theater and Jewish Repertory Theater, and has authored award-winning non-fiction books including The Anger Diet, Zen Miracles: Finding Peace in an Insane World, and Fearless.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Truly loving what I do. It's not a matter, then, of my success, but of sharing the importance of what I have with others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Let the next step and chapter, be revealed. Stop trying to control everything. And, care about your actions and not the consequences of them. Just do all as well and fully as you can, right now.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Enjoy every moment of it. It's not about failing or succeeding, it's about discovering and sharing that which is of true

meaning to you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

These days, there's a lot of online scamminig and confusion going on. It can be tricky to navigate it if not careful and aware.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, honesty and authenticity. They go very far in your own fulfillment.
