Her Story
About Brooklyn
I've been in my field for about 4 or 5 years, and the thing about my business is that it continues to evolve, which is where the name She's Evolving with Brooke came from. What inspired me to get into this field is that I knew there were a lot of women lacking self-confidence, finding things in other ways instead of finding it first and foremost within themselves. You cannot help someone if you're empty, so I'm all about trying to make sure that women know who they are first before they try to attain any type of success or lead some type of stronghold in any area. I graduated from Kentucky State University in 2018 with my degree in communications and internal communications media professionals. From there, I honed in on different crafts, working with radio and as an intern for television broadcast for my school. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I knew I had to do the groundwork first. I'm not opposed to getting my hands dirty, laying the foundation. I worked in the radio field before and after college, and then She's Evolving with Brooke came into place. I recently launched my apparel shop and got my LLC to make it official and legit. People have been interacting and I'm getting traction, which is exciting because they've not only seen me in the field of podcasting, but they've also seen me in the field of merchandise and apparel, seeing the words come to life on materials that I'm creating personally and hand crafting. Putting my words to print is such a beautiful thing, especially to see others wearing it with pride and taking pictures to show me.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brooklyn
01What do you attribute your success to?
For the most part, my faith. My faith is a very big factor in anything that I do. Everything that I do always goes back to that, but more even in that is my family. If I did not have my family as my rock, I'm sure to be a sinking ship without my family. They are the main proponents as to my acceleration and where I've been, and all of the different things that I've learned thus far, and into this evolving aspect of my life. This is not just a dream, but this is something that I want to be able to be launched out, to be able to reach as many women as I possibly can. Not out of my own merit, not out of my own strength, but out of my faith. And my belief system in that is what I believe draws people in and wants me to be able to draw out and catch those that are lost, or those that need to know more about who they are as an individual.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My husband is one big person that tells me, hey, I know you may not see the results now, but you never know what the work you're putting in today will do and the outcome for tomorrow. Just because I'm tired today does not mean that it's not going to be a good outcome for tomorrow. This advice has helped me stay focused and stay the course, because I never know who needs to hear what I have said, or who needs to receive that specific shirt, that specific piece of apparel that day.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say you must stay the course. You cannot give up because you're not seeing results instantly. We live in an instantaneous generation where we think that everything should just happen right away. My husband tells me, hey, I know you may not see the results now, but you never know what the work you're putting in today will do and the outcome for tomorrow. So I'd like to tell them to stay the course. Do not give up because you're not seeing instant results, because some results take time. Just because you're tired today does not mean that it's not going to be a good outcome for tomorrow. Let me stay focused and stay the course, because I never know who needs to hear what I have said, or who needs to receive that shirt, that specific piece of apparel that day.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the challenges is trying to find your target audience. I reach out to a mass of people, and I want to make sure that I have it concentrated with the demographic that I'm trying to obtain. Right now, my struggle is with social media marketing. I want to not just throw something out there, but I want to make sure that it is targeted to the crowd that I'm trying to reach, which is women, because my brand is all about for women, my apparel is all for women. I'm struggling a little bit with that, but I think that it's good, even in that, because I'm seeing what works and what doesn't. If I didn't struggle, then I wouldn't know the downside of certain things. So I think it's still yet a benefit. I don't know if I would really consider it a downside or a struggle, but it is something that I can kind of work with, because I'm still learning, and it's fun to learn. Even when you mess up, it's still fun to learn.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm all about making sure that ethics are in place, that people are sure to know that I'm honest and trustworthy, and that things shared with me are very confidential. I never want to share anyone's personal information with anyone. I always want to make sure that I remain as a safe haven for whomever I'm in contact with, because I do a lot of social interaction. I want to always make sure that whenever I am talking with someone, that I remain approachable, and that that is a heavy way of being a safe place for someone to continue to return. Not only do I sell products, but I interact with individuals. It's all about the interaction and continually keeping that clientele coming back. But more than that, making sure that people know that they are welcome, they are seen, and they are heard.
