Her Story

About Carolina

I came from Brazil in 1998 for a language program at UCSD, and while I was here I began helping friends who were also trying to move to San Diego but struggled to find housing. That need quickly became clear, and just a few years later I founded my company. I secured a contract with UCSD early on, which helped establish the business, and since then I’ve expanded my work to include SDSU and several other language schools.

Today, I specialize in housing placement for international students, visiting scholars, and researchers, as well as homestay arrangements with American families so they can experience daily life in the U.S.

In aviation, I entered the industry about three years ago through Pace Group Aviation, where I served as general manager overseeing procurement for aircraft parts and aircraft. After about a year and a half, I transitioned to working independently. Now I focus mainly on sourcing aircraft, acting as an intermediary: I receive inquiries, verify their legitimacy, confirm the connection between buyer and end user, and ensure there are no unnecessary broker chains. Once everything is validated, I connect the buyer and seller to move the transaction forward, and I remain involved throughout the process.

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes down to discipline, hard work, resilience, and persistence. Working in international business across both of my fields requires being available day and night, so I’ve made it a point to show up whenever needed, regardless of time or day—that flexibility has been key.

I’m also a single mom with a young daughter, so it hasn’t always been easy. There have been real challenges along the way, especially with limited support. But I believe it’s that steady persistence over the years that has brought me to where I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that no matter how strong you are in your field, you still need a team—otherwise success becomes much harder to sustain. Learning to delegate well is truly an art in itself.
