Carolyn Bowman is a dedicated yoga instructor and author based in Saratoga, California, who combines her lifelong commitment to education, movement, and wellbeing into her work. She is the author of the memoir The Wiggly Warriors and teaches classes including aqua yoga, emphasizing mindfulness, authenticity, and following one’s intuition. Carolyn recently hosted a book launch and continues to expand her teaching and outreach within her community.

Before transitioning into yoga and writing, Carolyn spent 30 years as a public school special education teacher, focusing on preschool and early childhood programs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Multiple Subjects from the University of Redlands and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from San Francisco State University. Her professional philosophy centers on integrity, independence, and “showing up” fully in both her personal and professional life.

Carolyn is actively involved in her local yoga community and her Unitarian church, using her experience to inspire others to embrace movement, mindfulness, and personal growth. She encourages young women—especially those with cerebral palsy or similar challenges—to discover their strengths, trust their intuition, and embrace failure as an essential part of learning and growth.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my childhood, which shaped my commitment to wellbeing through movement and meditation, and to living with integrity, independence, and authenticity—always following my intuition and doing work I love.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to do what you love, and trust that everything else will fall into place.

My advice to young women entering this industry is to discover your strengths, follow your intuition, and embrace failure as an essential part of growth.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face in my field right now is navigating the changes that come with aging while living with cerebral palsy.
