Her Interview

Ten minutes with Chasity

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to proving that I can do this on my own, that I don't need help from a man. I've always been dependent on a man my whole life, but now I've gotten so independent on my own. I don't want any man thinking that I need them. After being married for 30 years and then getting divorced, this is the first time I've ever lived on my own or done anything by myself. So anything I achieve is a big thing to me. I went from living with my dad right in with my husband when I was young, so I never had to do anything on my own. Now I'm very proud of myself for building this independence and proving I can accomplish my goals without depending on others.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to not let anybody discourage me. I need to stay focused and keep going towards my goal. This advice has been especially important as I navigate challenges in my career, like when I do interviews that I think went great and they end up picking someone they already had in mind. Even when things get discouraging, I remind myself to stay focused and keep pushing through, because everything happens for a reason.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I don't regret getting married or having my kids or anything like that, but I wish I would have gone to school sooner and focused on a career too, so I wouldn't be trying to do this when I'm older. My advice to other women is to invest in their education and career early on. You can have a family and still pursue your professional goals. Don't wait like I did. It's never too late to start, but it's easier if you build that foundation earlier in life rather than starting from scratch later.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest challenges I have encountered is navigating the uncertainty of internal hiring processes and competing for advancement opportunities. It can be discouraging when positions appear to have predetermined outcomes despite having the qualifications and performing well during interviews. At the same time, I view these experiences as opportunities to continue developing my skills, leveraging my management training and education, and positioning myself for future leadership roles.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect and compassion are the values that guide both my personal and professional life. I believe everyone is facing challenges that others may not see, which is why treating people with kindness, empathy, and understanding is so important. I strive to treat others the way I would want to be treated and to create positive relationships built on mutual respect.
