Her Story

About Christine

My career path has been an interesting ride where all the things I've done seemed to not really match well until I landed on what I'm finally doing. I have an extensive background in marketing and sales, fundraising, and health coaching, with a strong interest in how the foods we eat can act as medicine or poison depending on our choices. Laced through all of that is a personal experience with my daughter who has an intellectual disability, and I watched her struggle to find and maintain employment. She's actually been an inspiration for a lot of what I've done. All of those experiences culminated in my position at New Growth Project, where I helped found this nonprofit to employ adults with disabilities on a chemical-free vegetable farm, tying in my love for food. I'm in charge of all of the marketing and storytelling, which is my passion. On a daily basis, I'm responsible for all of the fundraising and community collaborations, finding relationships with other local organizations and donors that would support our work and also benefit from our work. We have great collaborations with other nonprofits like food pantries. My job is to make sure that the team as a whole knows where we're going as an organization and what our mission is, that the community understands what we offer and the problem that we're solving, and to ensure that the organization is financially sound and that the future continues to look bright.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is a quote: if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, take others with you. I've done a few things throughout my lifetime as a sole entrepreneur, which were great and wonderful experiences and successful, but nothing like the New Growth Project has been. When my business partner and I were able to build a team and continue to expand that team, we've been able to impact the community on a much broader scale than I would be able to on my own.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give the advice to dream big. You need to be crazy enough to believe that you can change the world and believe in big dreams, because that's how changes are made. You might be equipped with more than you realize you are until you put yourself in a place that is challenging, and challenges come from big dreams.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

A person's integrity, to say what they mean and mean what they say, is a value that I hold near and dear. Doing the right thing is near and dear to me. And also, just to be brave and imagine the impossible, because sometimes that leads you to things that are impossible that maybe you didn't see.
