Her Story

About Claudine

I've always been interested in psychology and how human behaviors and minds work, which led me to organizational psychology. I was on a scholarship scheme with Singapore Airlines in Singapore, where I focused on the airline industry. My husband and I moved around the globe - I got my college degree in Perth, Australia, then worked in Singapore as manager for crew communications and welfare, and later as manager for in-flight sales and meal order sales. After fulfilling my bond with Singapore Airlines, I did work for a selection and assessment company and consulted for an airline based in India, spending 50% of my time there. We moved from Singapore to London, to Geneva, to Milwaukee, and finally to the Bay Area where we had twins. When the kids were going into school, I found myself driving them up and down for programs and thought there must be a better way. I started talking to parents and schools to identify gaps, and founded Electivity in 2015 to bring programs right to schools where children are familiar with the environment. We manage everything from marketing to registration, payment processes, and communications, and we partner with community providers like local artists, dancers, carpenters, and IT technicians. We even worked with a cartoonist from Lucasfilms who brings not just his skills but his life experiences to children. We encourage women who have stepped away from corporate life to spend time with children in the community, and we work with small business owners and people of color. We grew organically through word of mouth and parent networks, and we've always been cognizant about measured growth aligned with our values.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I believe in charting your own path and not being afraid to take a different route than what you've seen before. Whatever degree or training you get is never a waste because you develop transferable skills that you can bring to new roles. I tell my kids that it's okay to make mistakes and that things are always changing - you have to be brave and leverage what you're good at. As long as you find what you do fulfilling, you know what your goal is, and you enjoy the process, that's what matters. In my business, we value measured, organic growth and making sure the providers we work with align with our values. We want to be community builders working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders, and we find it very powerful to build connections through word of mouth rather than aggressive marketing. I'm also very fortunate to work from home, which gives me the flexibility to balance my family and work responsibilities.
