Her Story

About Deborah

I wanted to become the person that I needed growing up. I'm first-generation American, and being first-generation American comes with its own weight. Because of the lack of resources and knowledge that my parents and family members had access to, I missed out on a lot. I was the first to graduate college. I realized there are a lot of people moving through life on autopilot, and I was one of them. Before I had this aha epiphany moment, I was someone who just woke up and went with the flow, and everything was nothing, and there was nothing of importance. Then I realized that when you move that way, you really, truly aren't able to properly steward your most valuable resource, and time is the one thing that we cannot change. You can adjust a lot, you can increase your pay if you do the right things and implement the right habits, but you can't add another day or another hour into your life. Once I realized that, I had this sense of urgency to execute on my goals and what I want, and to also help other people do the same. My target audience is high-performing women, but I will also be opening it up to corporate contracts and other non-profits, since I have built rapport with a few nonprofit organizations.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The first thing before stepping in is to identify your big why. The reason why I say that is because your why will keep you going when motivation can't. Motivation runs out quickly, but keeping the momentum is important, and it's important to stick to your plan and not the mood, because living this life, there are a bunch of things that come and go, and darts are thrown at you frequently, so it's really easy to start and stop. I would say identifying your why is important. A lot of people are in it for money, and I think when you're in it for the money and that's the number one sole purpose, then that kind of sets you up for disappointment. But I would say the why, if a young woman knows why, and it's bigger than herself, then I think that's a great starting ground.
