Denise Bethune is a dynamic media professional, entrepreneur, and child advocate with over 16 years of experience in publishing and community outreach. She is the Founder and Publisher of SHOWCASE Magazine: The Progressive Black Woman, a publication dedicated to highlighting and empowering Black women across industries, and serves as Editor-in-Chief and Publicity Manager for P.E.A.S. Magazine under Peas In Their Pods, Inc. Through her work, Denise raises awareness about missing African American children and provides resources to strengthen families and communities. She also works full-time with the New Jersey Department of Child and Family Services, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting and protecting youth.

Denise earned her Bachelor of Science in Business/Public Administration from the University of Phoenix, which provided a strong foundation for her entrepreneurial and leadership endeavors. As a publisher and editor, she combines editorial vision with strategic management, media communications, and public engagement to produce content that inspires, educates, and uplifts. Her publications have featured influential leaders, educators, and advocates, amplifying stories of Black excellence and community impact. Denise’s expertise extends to fundraising, public speaking, and nonprofit management, making her a well-rounded leader in both media and advocacy spaces.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Denise comes from a large family of 11 children and values time with loved ones, mentoring younger generations, and offering wisdom and guidance. Her passion for community service is matched by her love of learning, documentaries, and reading, reflecting her belief in lifelong growth and empowerment. Through her work with SHOWCASE Magazine and Peas In Their Pods, Denise continues to make a tangible difference by advocating for vulnerable populations, promoting education, and uplifting the next generation of leaders.

I attribute my success to determination and a steadfast commitment to achieving my goals. Staying focused and resilient has allowed me to navigate challenges and continuously grow both personally and professionally.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to never give up and to always believe in myself. Maintaining confidence and perseverance has been essential in overcoming obstacles and pursuing my passions.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to thoroughly research the opportunities available, ask thoughtful questions, reach out to mentors and peers, and most importantly, enjoy the journey. Engaging with your work wholeheartedly and with curiosity leads to meaningful growth and success.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—is effectively connecting with business owners, particularly managing the time required to build meaningful relationships. Finding innovative ways to engage and collaborate is key to advancing the work we do.

Being true to myself is the value I prioritize most. Staying authentic guides my decisions, fosters trust with others, and ensures I lead with integrity in all aspects of life.
