Her Story
About G. Emily
With 10 years in the technology field, I currently serve as an operations manager, a position I've held for about two and a half years. In this role, I manage our overall performance metrics, understanding how the overall product and team is operating. I'm responsible for launching any new products, ensuring that our teams across the board are ready for any new product that comes their way, and I handle overall product lifecycle management. What I love about tech is the combination of the fast-paced environments and being able to bridge the gap between engineering and technical work, as well as my outgoing and people-loving personality. Being able to translate the very technical language to everyday kind of operation and customer-facing language is really something that I think I thrive in. A couple years ago, I started my own business, Life Launch LLC, taking everything I learned over the last 10 years within corporate America to help other women navigate overall finances, becoming financially independent, and building their careers up to be what they want it to be and what their hopes and aspirations and overall goals are. My main goal is to get to a point where I can have a big non-profit portion of my business that helps lower income and people that really need to learn about budgeting and investing have an easier barrier to entry, or no barrier to entry.

Ten minutes with G. Emily
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think just not giving up and rolling with the punches. You know, the tech industry changes so fast, and there's constant layoffs and shifting of goals and priorities, especially now with the big push to AI, and I think it's wanting to be a lifelong learner, wanting to be challenged, and being okay with failing, and learning from the failures, so that you can succeed the next time, or fail less the next time you attempt something.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Do your best every day, and put it all on the table, and come back the next day and try to put just 10% more than you did the previous day.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be curious. I think a lot of times in tech, we see a job description, and we sign the offer letter, and we come in thinking it's gonna be one thing, and often more often than not, the tech industry just changes so much, which automatically means each of the roles changes so much day to day. And you just have to be flexible, and you have to be ready to think critically and think in a solution-oriented manner, but even if you fail, it's just one additional data point of what not to do next time. So you're constantly learning from both the failures and the successes.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think growing quickly and learning quickly can sometimes be exhausting and overwhelming, and just knowing that you can't know everything, but you can know some things really well, and that's really the main part about being a subject matter expert in your field is understanding what you don't know and having the curiosity to want to go out and learn, and fill in those gaps.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say, just overall, loyalty, honesty, solid communication, and being able to just not give up, the perseverance, and the ability to pivot.
