About Gisella
I am a mentor for the youth with the Alliance for Community Empowerment in Canoga Park, California, where I have been working for 2 years. In my role, I focus on core advocacy and provide comprehensive support to young people. My daily responsibilities include case management, reentry support, job readiness training, and making referrals out to therapy and counseling services. I completed my peer support certification from Loyola Marymount University this year and am currently pursuing my associate's degree in Human Services. My work is driven by compassion, resilience, and a commitment to service. My most notable professional achievement is transforming my life experience into professional expertise, allowing me to connect with and support the youth I serve in meaningful ways.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I want to say discipline for showing up to my job, at home, and within myself.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice that I have ever received is never too late.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do not let the past define them.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges I would like to say is not enough funding for the community. In terms of opportunities, there are leadership opportunities available in the field.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
A great value that I have is that I have a lot of compassion. I have a lot of uncertainty. I am big on resilience, and big on service.
