About Hope

I've been in sales for 14 years, and I've been working in merchant services for about 4 years now. I'm currently with Payteva, where I've been for a year. My career started when I was young, selling Cutco knives, and that really shaped my career path. I worked as a sales representative at Verizon for 4 years, then moved to Worldpay in payment processing, and later worked at SpotOn selling payment processing and restaurant point of sale systems. What led me back to my current position was wanting to get back into merchant services and helping business owners grow their businesses with point of sale and software solutions. I work mainly with restaurants and retail establishments, helping them get into systems that help them grow their business. My typical day involves a lot of outbound calling to generate new business, and I also help maintain my existing clients' accounts for point of sale and payment processing. I've hit top sales in the company for several months, which I'm proud of. I really like meeting new people and helping businesses grow, and I love to stay competitive. I do most of my selling over the phone, and I do the best when I believe in what I'm selling and I'm passionate about it.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Hope

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say just to choose a company that I can be passionate about, because I do the best when I believe in what I'm selling, and I'm passionate about it. When I'm truly passionate about the products and services I offer, it shows in my work and helps me connect better with my clients. That belief in what I'm doing drives my success and allows me to genuinely help businesses grow.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to stay disciplined and make one more call, even if you're tired, because sometimes it can turn into a sale. There's a saying, "one more call", and that really resonates with me since I do most of my selling over the phone. That extra effort, even when you're exhausted, can make all the difference and lead to unexpected success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just say to be open to new opportunities and not be afraid to try new things, because you never know what you might be good at. Sometimes the best career paths are the ones you didn't expect, and being willing to explore different options can lead you to discover talents and passions you didn't know you had.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say a lot of competition would be a challenge. The market is oversaturated for merchant services, so you have to make yourself stand out. You have to differentiate yourself with the customer service you can provide, not just the rates. It becomes a war of the rates, so standing out more with better support and quality is really important.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

For work, I would say to sell with integrity, and then in terms of values overall, just to be kind to everyone, and be honest, and friendly. These principles guide how I interact with clients and colleagues, and they're important to me both professionally and personally. You never know who you're talking to or who they'll be later, so treating everyone with kindness and honesty is essential.
