Her Story

About Jalissa

I come from a background where I was filled with low self-esteem and didn't quite believe in myself for quite some time. I was originally born in Chicago, then moved to Mississippi, lived in Georgia, and as I got into my 20s, I moved to Arkansas. I've seen so many people who are influential and entrepreneurial, and they inspired me to pursue my wedding planning certificate, to pursue wine, and to pursue college. I'm currently in college for my business degree. So much around in my environment has been such a vital part of making me want to feel motivated to do more for myself. I started off from a place of not believing in myself, and once I was able to finally hold strongly towards being that person who I am today, I've been able to finally find that voice to reach out and advocate and say, hey, this is what I have, and I hope that it is something that's appreciated, something that can be highlighted and inspire young women. I now walk with my head held high, making business moves.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would share with young women is to just trust themselves and not rely on external validation. You don't need permission to pursue what feels aligned with you. Your path may not be traditional, but that doesn't make it less valuable. I myself did not have a high school diploma at first. It took me learning myself and loving myself and having that self-confidence to pursue that, and then I was able to find a love for wine and a love for entrepreneurship. It's been a momentum for myself to just continue to pursue and love that process and see where it takes me. I encourage young women to love on themselves, because that's where the hard work first happens. If they get over that, they'll be able to accomplish anything.
