Her Story
About Jennifer
I lead a team focused on organizational change management, which means I'm on calls all day long. I help to grow and build my team while working with our clients to make sure that we are properly advising and consulting them so that all of their end users and organizations are prepared for whatever change is being implemented for them. It's a lot of people management, resistance management, and leadership engagement. I'm really at the intersection of technology, process, and people. My most notable achievement has been advancing the organizational change management field and seeing those teams grow within the companies I've worked at. Because it's a newer field in relation to some other disciplines that have existed for a long time, I'm proud when we're able to grow the team by hiring more people or land a really big project. I would say the role I've had to play in expanding the discipline is what I'm most proud of.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Jennifer
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say communication - being transparent with people, being willing to say the hard things, even if it feels uncomfortable in the moment, and just being willing to speak up. I think that has been really critical for me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say advocate for yourself. If you don't, very few other people will, and if you're not willing to, why should anyone else be willing to? So just being brave and advocating for yourself and speaking up in the proper, professional way.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
For me, it's getting comfortable with business development. I feel like my engineering background - no one really taught me how to do that. And as part of growing the discipline in general, and then just growing the various teams that I've been leading, that business development aspect has become a much larger portion of my day. It's definitely a skill that I am continuing to grow daily.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'd say people first. It's interesting, especially in work - work will always be there, but it's really important to make sure that the people around me are taken care of. And then that also goes to my personal life. I live closer to my family now than I did back in my 20s, and spending time and making sure that I'm prioritizing the people around me is something that I really try to focus on.
