Her Story
About Joy
I currently work two jobs. My primary role is as a gun crime technician, also called a correlation technician or ballistics technician, working with the ATF law enforcement agency, where I've been for over 4 years. In this position, I handle gun crime evidence cases all over the state, recognizing patterns in different cases to help solve crimes. It's a very important job because each case is somebody's life, and we are protecting our community with each case that we take care of. My work involves dealing with crime evidence that is often confidential in nature. I also work as an accounts payable specialist, where I handle accounts payable, payroll, and other accounting functions. I have my bachelor's degree in criminal justice, which I completed in 2026. I have a passion for both accounting and numbers as well as the crime evidence field, so I'm looking to move into fraud examining in the next 5 years, where I can be on the legal side while also investigating companies based on audits, making sure companies are doing what's right for everybody. I want to deal with fraud investigations, combining my interests in both fields.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think networking is very important, and building the community is important. I want to encourage other people that are interested in the field, and I definitely would want to be a leader and someone that can set an example and be that light if someone is interested or wanting to go into that field and doesn't know. I feel like it's our responsibility to always present ourselves as leaders, and present ourselves well because people are always watching. Each case I work on is somebody's life, and we are protecting our community with each case that we take care of.
