Her Story

About Julie

My career in recruiting spans over 15 years across multiple industries. I honestly fell into HR and Recruiting right after graduating from FAU with my undergrad in Health Service Administration. I randomly applied to jobs to make my parents happy, never thinking I'd actually get one, but I ended up getting an HR assistant job about a week after graduating. I took it not thinking anything of it, the recruiter there took me under their wings and showed me the ropes, but I ended up loving it, and here I am 15 plus years later still going strong. Throughout my career, I've been lucky enough to work in several different industries - I've done healthcare, finance, legal, retail, and beverage manufacturing. I recruit for all levels and have had my fair share of experiences when it comes to recruiting, as well as some HR work. My key responsibilities include keeping constant communication with candidates I have in process, multiple meetings with hiring managers, plant managers, and directors on a weekly basis to make sure we're on the same page about what's happening with positions, who's interviewing, whether we're extending offers, and if we need to make any changes to how I'm recruiting candidates. Aside from my daily recruiting, I also get assigned to various projects - currently I'm working on a termination process. My most notable professional achievement would be completing my master's degree while working full-time and working on a very big project for my degree 2. It was one of those projects where I was having to collaborate internationally, so time zones were different and there was very little sleep, but I was able to complete the degree, keep my job, and get the project done. Personally, I love spending time with family and close friends. Catching a movie (huge marvel fan) and just enjoying life. We live in a stressful time and being able to just relax and enjoy life is key to staying sane.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to a combination of things. Definitely my support system throughout the years that have pushed me to continue building and growing and learning. But also to the strong relationships that I've built, being able to be adaptable, and my willingness to continue to learn. I've worked tremendously hard throughout my career, always stayed consistent, and I just genuinely care about the people I work with and the candidates that I work with, realizing how every connection will impact my success and bring me throughout my career. I also recognize the impact of mentors I've had along the way - those leaders who believed in me, challenged me even when I didn't want to be challenged, and really guided me throughout my career, helping me build and understand how things work within the recruiting industry and how to really make a difference both in my personal life as well as professionally. Being able to make a difference in the lives of those individuals I end up giving jobs to is huge - it's a big change for them, their life, and their family as well.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to stop waiting until you feel 100% ready before going after opportunities. Confidence often comes after taking the leap, not before it.

I’ve also learned that building strong relationships and finding mentors along the way is invaluable. The people who encourage you, advocate for you, and challenge you to grow can shape your career in powerful ways. And just as importantly, don’t make yourself smaller to make others comfortable — your voice, ideas, and presence belong in every room you’ve earned your way into.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say treat people with respect, stay focused, be determined, but also get comfortable with the uncomfortable conversations. Those will happen, and those uncomfortable conversations are usually the ones that really help to build your career and make you stronger. Recruiting is one of those careers where personality, consistency, and curiosity matter the most. Building strong relationships are important, and learning not to take rejection personally is important. understanding that your job does matter - what you do does change lives. You’re giving someone more than just a job you’re giving them a career opportunity that can change their life. It means they can provide for their family, pay tuition, and create a better future for themselves. Recruiting is a tough industry that requires thick skin, so staying focused, determined and building relationships is key.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would have to say the challenges are a mix of market changes, candidate expectations, and just pure hiring fatigue. Burnout in recruiting is a real thing, and us as recruiters, we're expected to balance high req loads, continuous follow-up with our candidates, scheduling chaos between candidates and hiring managers, all while also trying to meet metrics for the company. The market nowadays is just so unpredictable - some industries are on a complete hiring freeze, while other industries are aggressively hiring and growing their teams. You just don't know from day to day exactly what's going to happen. Recruiting today is less about just posting the jobs and more about really creating an experience for the candidate. Candidates have access to more information, they have higher expectations, and they have more options than ever before when it comes to picking and choosing who they want to work for. So it's really creating that experience that will help convince that person whether or not the company is good for them, and if it's the move that they want to make for their career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value people who are genuine, communicative, honest, and consistent. Both personally and professionally, I care deeply about building strong relationships, creating a positive environment and culture, and doing work that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

I’m passionate about being creating meaningful, positive experiences for others — that’s something I hold very close to my heart. My faith also plays a big role in keeping me grounded, motivated, and pushing me forward through every season of life and career. It’s not just about the outcomes, but about how you show up for people along the way.
