Her Story

About Julie

I always wanted to go down this path. I saw my mom go in a business field, and that's what I just kind of wanted to do. Before my current role, I worked in medical and industrial fields. Today, as an Executive Assistant, my role involves a lot of responsibility - interacting with members of the state of Indiana with our nonprofit, working alongside our CEO on different projects, utilizing Microsoft Office knowledge which is critical, building spreadsheets, and keeping data organized. I've been with my current nonprofit for almost two years, and I really love the nonprofit that I work for. I love the mission. It's very humbling, and we just have a wonderful crew here. What I'm most proud of is being where I am today. Every role here is meaningful - we make life for the better in the disability world, and we are helpful towards folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I enjoy that I can take a lot of burden off of our CEO when needed. That's what I enjoy the most.

Ten minutes with Julie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just being on top of pretty much everything. Making sure that I go to work every day - that's one of the biggest things, is to stay in the know. Because things are always changing in this role, it seems like. I maintain good communication with not only my peers, but the CEO as well, and just keep up on tech. Technology is always changing as well. So what I feel is this communication - maintaining good communication and keeping up on tech are the biggest things.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You gotta have a strong backbone. There's gonna be a lot of people that try to walk all over you in this field, and it just comes with the territory. You gotta learn how to not take things - you just gotta work hard. Take things with a grain of salt sometimes. It's kind of a dog-eat-dog world. Don't get easily angered. Slow to speak. That's my thoughts.
