Her Story

About Kanika

I have been in my field for 12 years, with 8 years specifically in sales and go-to-market space. My main area of expertise is in the FP&A space, including budgeting, forecasting, and model building, all within the SaaS and consumption-based industry. I started my career in India after completing my MBA in 2014, working as a financial analyst for 2 years before moving to the US. At Conga, I grew from financial analyst to senior manager over 5 years, working on every aspect of P&L from headcount to revenue forecasting and booking forecasting. I then moved to Druva where I worked for 3 years on top line, renewals, ARR, and strategic initiatives, and that's where I became a mom. I've been in the midst of strategic teams for both companies. Most recently, I spent a year at Snowflake in sales, but with a young child and the travel demands of 5 days a week, I decided to pivot and look for hybrid opportunities with growth potential. I want to build my own team and become a VP in the near future, finding a place where I can do what I love and grow simultaneously, both professionally and as a mom.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be ready to learn. Change is the only constant - that's my motto. I uprooted my life from India, came here, and did everything I could to keep growing. The only thing that kept me going was change. I always adapted to change and was always a go-to person to do things. I built myself from zero to where I am right now in the US without even having a degree from the US, which is something I am proud of. The only thing which kept me going is not to give up - have that perseverance, try and build things on your own. I know there is so much AI right now and people have stopped thinking, frankly. Everything, I mean, computer does everything for you. I don't think that's the future. In the profile we are in, I think our heads need to be in a space where we can think, we can strategize, we can see what AI can't. So I would say just be open-minded to all kind of changes, but don't forget that you are the person who's building AI, and you're the person who has to be present. AI can't do everything what you are supposed to do.
