Her Story

About Kattie

Kattie Harvey has dedicated more than 28 years to talent acquisition and healthcare recruiting, building a career focused on connecting compassionate professionals with meaningful opportunities. Currently serving as a Contract Recruiter with Gentiva Hospice, she specializes in recruiting hospice care consultants and healthcare professionals committed to delivering exceptional patient-centered care. Known for her authentic, relationship-driven approach, Kattie believes recruiting is about far more than filling positions—it is about understanding people, recognizing potential, and creating lasting connections that positively impact patients, families, and communities.

Her career began in travel nurse placement throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, where she developed a deep appreciation for the healthcare industry and the professionals who serve within it. Over the years, she expanded her expertise through corporate recruiting roles with organizations such as ADT, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and Randstad. In 2024, Kattie transitioned from corporate America to launch her own recruiting consultancy, HireLink, providing staffing and workforce development solutions for healthcare organizations.

One of the most meaningful milestones in her career was supporting her cousin, Dr. Kelly McCants, in establishing a cardiology practice. In this role, she recruited staff, coordinated clinicians, and developed partnerships with universities to create internship and externship opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals.

Beyond her professional achievements, Kattie is deeply passionate about mentorship and community impact. In 2016, she founded The Onither K. Bell Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to workforce development, youth mentorship, and expanding access to internships for students. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration at Strayer University while continuing to advocate for compassionate hiring practices rooted in transparency, authenticity, and human connection.

Recognized as an honored listee in Marquis Who’s Who, Kattie remains committed to helping others discover purpose-driven careers that truly make a difference.

Ten minutes with Kattie

01What do you attribute your success to?

What I believe contributes most to my success is simply being true to who I am. My passion, transparency, authenticity, and ability to genuinely connect with people are what continue to drive me both personally and professionally. Throughout my career, I have always believed that people can sense when someone is being real, and I have never wanted to lose myself trying to fit into a certain image or persona.

Especially in corporate America, there can sometimes be pressure to present yourself in a way that feels less authentic, but I have always believed in leading with honesty, integrity, and transparency. Of course, professionalism and knowing your audience are important, and I understand when to adjust to different environments, but at the core, I remain true to myself. That authenticity has helped me build lasting relationships, earn trust, and stay grounded throughout my journey.

I also strongly believe that passion is essential to success. So many people go to work every day feeling unhappy or unfulfilled, and life is simply too short to live that way. Success is not just about money — it is about fulfillment, purpose, and waking up each day feeling connected to what you do. A person can make ten dollars an hour and feel fulfilled and excited about life, while someone else may make six figures but feel empty inside.

When you truly love what you do, it changes everything. Passion gives you the motivation to keep going during difficult times, the energy to pour into others, and the fulfillment that money alone cannot provide. To me, happiness, purpose, and authenticity are the true keys to success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received was to always remain authentic, stay true to who I am, and never lose myself trying to fit into someone else’s expectations. Authenticity builds trust, creates meaningful relationships, and allows you to move through life and your career with confidence and purpose.

I’ve also learned the importance of truly enjoying what you do. When you are passionate about your work, it no longer feels like just a job, it becomes something that fulfills you and motivates you to keep growing. Life is too short to spend every day unhappy or disconnected from your purpose.

Another lesson that has stayed with me is to always show up for yourself. Believe in yourself, invest in yourself, and continue pushing forward even during challenging seasons. There will always be ups and downs, but when you remain authentic, passionate, and committed to your goals, everything else eventually falls into place. Success starts from within.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say the most important thing is to be passionate about whatever it is you choose to do in life. So many people go to work every day feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and simply going through the motions. Success is not always about the amount of money you make — it is about waking up each day with purpose, peace, and fulfillment in what you do.

I truly believe that a person can make ten dollars an hour and feel happier and more fulfilled than someone making six figures but dreading every single day. Passion creates energy, motivation, and a sense of meaning that money alone cannot provide. When you genuinely love what you do, it reflects in your attitude, your work ethic, the way you treat people, and the impact you make on others.

Life is short, and we spend so much of our time working, so it is important to choose a path that brings you joy and aligns with who you are. Challenges will come in any career, but when you are passionate, those challenges become easier to overcome because your heart is connected to the work.

At the end of the day, happiness and fulfillment are priceless. If you love what you do, success will naturally follow because passion drives excellence, consistency, and purpose. That, to me, is the true key to success.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in recruiting right now is finding the right balance between speed and quality. Many organizations want positions filled quickly, especially in healthcare and sales, but the candidate market has become much more competitive and relationship-driven. Strong candidates often have multiple opportunities, so recruiters have to move fast while still ensuring the right cultural and long-term fit.

Another challenge is candidate engagement and retention throughout the process. Candidates today want transparency, flexibility, strong leadership, and a sense of purpose from the organizations they join. Especially in healthcare recruiting, many professionals are experiencing burnout, so it is important to not only present a job opportunity but also build trust and show how the organization supports its employees.

I also think one of the ongoing challenges is educating hiring leaders on the realities of the market. Sometimes expectations around salary, experience, territory coverage, or turnaround time may not align with what talent is actually available. A seasoned recruiter has to serve as both a talent partner and market consultant by providing insights, building pipelines proactively, and helping leaders stay competitive.

Despite the challenges, I still love recruiting because it is ultimately about people, relationships, and helping connect individuals with opportunities where they can truly make an impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency, passion, and being authentic are the values most important to me. I believe in always being honest with people and maintaining transparency in everything I do. What keeps me going is being true to myself and being who I am, rather than putting on a persona. I'm passionate about helping people, whether that's through my recruiting work connecting talented professionals with meaningful opportunities in healthcare, or through my nonprofit work mentoring young people and helping them find their path in the workforce. I believe in doing work that's meaningful, helping people who have a passion for helping others, because that's what brings fulfillment.

My father has been my hero for my entire life and continues to be one of my greatest supporters even today. Through every season of my life — the ups, downs, struggles, and setbacks — he has always stood beside me encouraging me to keep going and reminding me of my worth. He has always made me feel good about myself and instilled in me the belief that I can do and be anything I desire in life. One of the greatest gifts he has given me is confidence, encouragement, and unconditional support. He has always believed in my passion for helping people and has encouraged me to continue pursuing my dreams no matter what obstacles came my way. His love, guidance, and belief in me have played a major role in shaping the woman I am today, and for that I will always be grateful.
