What do you attribute your success to?
I absolutely attribute so much of my success to my current boss, who has been with me from the very beginning of my journey at New Spring Church. She was working alongside me as a project manager when I first started back in 2014, and even though I left the church to work in corporate for about 5 to 6 years, when I came back in 2022, she was still here and is now my boss. She has always been somebody who has poured into me and led the way in more ways than just professionally - she's been a very big influence in my life overall. Having someone who believed in me from the start, who saw my potential even when I had no project management experience at age 22, and who has continued to mentor and support me throughout my entire career has been invaluable. She's been there through all the different seasons of my professional journey, and her consistent leadership and investment in me has shaped who I am today as a project manager and now as a leader myself.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would definitely want to know first if this is something you're truly passionate about, because administration and organization can get monotonous, and if it's not something that you truly love doing, then I wouldn't suggest it. For unknown reasons, I've always loved it - I love a spreadsheet, I just love the administration and the organization behind everything that goes into project management. My biggest advice would be to really dive in through an internship or through volunteering and just really get your feet wet to see if this is something that you actually truly enjoy, because if it's not, you're gonna burn out pretty quickly. I also tell people to look at their personal life - and this is no shame to anybody who's not this way - but if your personal life, you're not typically an organized person, then you're probably not gonna find joy in doing it in a professional life. If it doesn't just come to you naturally in your personal life, where things like all of our passwords for me and my husband are on a spreadsheet, then it's going to be hard to find joy in it professionally. I naturally form organization into my personal life, so it's easy for me to find joy in it in my professional life because of how well it bleeds over. Look at your personal life first, and if that's not something that you enjoy doing personally, then you probably won't enjoy it professionally. That's not necessarily true for every field of work, but I would definitely say it applies to this field of work.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith and ministry are absolutely central to everything I do - I felt a strong calling from the Lord to be in vocational ministry, which is why I left college to work at New Spring Church, and I'm passionate about promoting the name of the Lord and inviting people to church so that people can know Him. Family is incredibly important to me - I have 3 children, 3 and under, and when I'm not at the office working, I am at home with my kids. That's actually why I stopped coaching soccer after 6 and a half years, because I got pregnant and wanted to devote that extra time to my child. I'm very involved in my church in different serving areas, and we do a lot of work with causes I care deeply about, like adoption agencies and nonprofit pregnancy care centers. I have a bigger heart towards the adoption agencies we've partnered with. I also value staying active and spending quality time with my family and friends - my husband and I both grew up involved in sports, so we love getting outside and getting active through sporting activities together, whether that's pick up tennis or playing basketball. I love exploring in the kitchen, especially baking, and finding creative outlets. Even though my volunteer time is minimal right now with three young children, I've always loved youth and sports, and I hope to give back to that in my volunteer time one day in the future as my kids get older.
