Her Story
About Kelsy
I’m a first-generation college student who took a journey with some unexpected turns. I graduated with degrees in Political Science and Psychology, which don’t directly relate to what I do now. At one point, I found myself on “Plan C” as life shifted, which eventually led me to pursue my MBA at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
For a while, I wasn’t entirely sure what direction I was heading in until I stumbled into a podcast opportunity. I quickly realized how much I loved the planning, coordination, and being part of a committee. That experience opened the door to a role in marketing and events within the construction industry.
I had always been interested in construction in some way, but never knew where I fit in. When the marketing and events opportunity came along, it felt unexpected but exciting, like everything finally clicked into place.
Now, I focus on social media, trade show coordination, and organizing company events. I also serve as a podcast co-host for the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point’s Women Trailblazers, which is one of my proudest accomplishments. Being part of this platform allows me to connect with and highlight incredible women, making a meaningful impact through community outreach and storytelling.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kelsy
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've ever received was from my mom and dad telling me, 'You can do it.' They gave me that faith that I can do anything by saying, 'If I can do it, you most certainly can do it.' That encouragement and belief from my parents has been the most meaningful guidance I've received.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, let your creative mind let loose. Don't hold back on your creativity and ideas as you enter this field.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
As a young professional, I feel like sometimes my word doesn't get out there to those who are experienced. That is definitely one of my biggest struggles. I also find that with people who are already known in the industry and know what is going on, lack of communication is something really big as well. But I like to say that I persevere. I try to get my word out there, I try my hardest to make sure that everybody communicates in every way possible.
