Her Story
About Kendyl
I've been in marketing for about 10 years, and my journey has been shaped by my love for stand-up comedy, which I did for several years when I was younger. When I started in college for communications with a focus in broadcast, I realized that communications is really about learning how to brand yourself, and I found that marketing offers a fun way to do comedy in a less intense, off-stage way because you can really connect with people at mass. When Liquid Death reached out about content creation, I was really excited to dip my toe in comedic marketing, and that's kind of how it all happened. Now, as Director of Brand Content at Snackish, I handle essentially all things creative when it comes to brand voice, brand content, script writing, and copy. I'm incredibly fortunate to work with an entirely female executive team, marketing by women for women, targeting female consumers because we know they're the decision makers, and we get to speak to what we know. Being able to join the Snackish team with Tara Bosch has been my most notable professional achievement so far. It's pretty awesome to work with a brand where you can lead, be really successful, and still be a really nice person.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Kendyl
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my ability to connect with people. That's really what has driven my success throughout my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Fake it till you make it. That's the best career advice I've ever received, and it's something that has helped me push forward even when I wasn't sure I was ready.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be confident in your decision-making, go with your gut, and be loud. Don't be afraid to make your voice heard and trust your instincts.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say that CPG marketing is very heavily male-dominated, so breaking through and finding a team of women in general in the creative and marketing field, and especially in female leadership, is tough. I'm really lucky to have found that with Snackish. And then just getting your ideas all the way through to the finish line can be challenging. Sometimes there's a lot of pushback to get to where you need it to be.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family first. That's really important to me. And respect, I would say, treating everyone with respect. In terms of leadership and everything, you don't want to be feared, and you don't want to fear leadership. You want to respect them and make them proud in the same way that you want to be portrayed. And just being good to people, hoping that they'll be good to you back.
