Her Story
About Kimberly
I've been in my field for 11 years, and my journey started in a very personal way. I spent a lot of time as a child in hospitals due to my brother having a cardiac situation, so I always knew about healthcare and started having a passion for wanting to go into healthcare at a very young age. When I heard about Ronald McDonald House and their tie into the healthcare field, I was very intrigued, and I became a volunteer as soon as I turned 18. They offered an internship that same year, and from the internship, they asked if I wanted to be an employee - and that's how it started. It just has flourished since. I taught elementary for 3 years with my teaching certification in Texas, and while teaching, I was very inspired to go more into behavioral therapy. I went back to school to gain my therapy license - my behavior therapy license - and I did that for quite a few years while still working at the hospital. Now I'm able to tie in my teaching certification, my behavior therapy license, and being in healthcare. I've also gone into bereavement training and very high stress level trauma therapy as well. My focus now is going more into mental health training because I really do want to be able to build up my own foundation, and that is what I'm currently working on.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would definitely say take the risk. It's very worth it, and you have to have the mindset of, what is the best thing that can happen? And there will always be changes. Nothing goes as planned. But things will go as they should go. Every day, even if it's not what you expect. I really believe that unexpected is the best outcome.
