Her Story
About Kristen
I have been a therapist for about 5 years, working in private practice. I started my career in education because I wanted to advocate for children. I became a school counselor after completing grad school, but I found that I was doing triage and couldn't get to the root problems these kids were facing. I could look at a classroom and tell which kids came from happy, healthy homes and which came from struggling homes. I realized that a greater way to help build a healthier future was by helping heal the adults in these children's lives. That's when I transitioned into private practice. I've had a great influx of individuals in high-conflict relationships or going through high-conflict divorce, and I've been a tool to help heal the hearts of people who have been through high-conflict divorce, including children and parents. Watching someone in a poor relationship get through to the other side and find themselves again, seeing that spark come back into their eyes and reintroducing that lost self, is the number one joy and accomplishment that I'm so proud of. I'm now expanding my practice to conduct child custody evaluations for high-conflict cases, adoption evaluations, and immigration evaluations to help people get legal status. I really want to transition into court-adjacent work only, whether that's reunification therapy for families who have estrangements, parenting coordination and facilitation that's court-ordered to help high-conflict parents parent in a healthy way, or child custody evaluations and immigration and adoption evaluations. I'd really like to get heavily involved with the courts.

Ten minutes with Kristen
01What do you attribute your success to?
I was raised in a very troubled home by a single mother, and bless her heart, she did the best that she could, but there were a lot of things that could have been done better. I was determined that I was going to be the changer in my lineage, and I was going to do as much as I could opposite of the way that I was raised. Now, I'm the very first person in my family to graduate high school, to graduate with a bachelor's degree, and to graduate with a master's degree. It's really that I wanted better for me. Growing in this field, I also wanted to reach out to the little Kristens that have gone through what I've gone through.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say do it scared. I would say do it anyway. Time is gonna pass, whether you're working towards your goals or not. Might as well just do it now.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My values include family, love, and perseverance. Just being kind to people and being there for people when they're going through something are values that I truly try to live by.
