Ten minutes with Leah

01What do you attribute your success to?

At the core of my success is a commitment to compassionate, empathetic leadership. These principles allow me to approach HR challenges with clarity and care, ensuring decisions are fair, human-centered, and aligned with the needs of the business. They enable me to connect deeply with employees and leaders, turning difficult moments into opportunities for growth. When people feel understood, seen, and valued, they are able to perform at their best—and that has been the foundation of every successful partnership I’ve built.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I experienced having my voice silenced and navigating building my confidence back. The best career advice I received was to trust myself and to never shrink to make others comfortable because I deserve a seat at the table and my voice is valuable. Invest in your own development and be an advocate for the people you support and yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Trust your voice early. HR relies on confidence, clarity, and courage, and you deserve a seat at every table you walk into. Lead with compassion, but balance it with boundaries. Empathy will help you connect, influence, and support people—but your strength will come from staying grounded in policy, consistency, and fairness. Listen with intention, assume positive intent, and remember that every decision you make impacts someone’s livelihood. Let that guide you, not intimidate you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I want to shift the narrative that HR is intimidating or solely focused on policies and discipline. At its core, HR is about people—and I am committed to creating workplaces where employees feel valued, supported, and able to thrive.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Empathy, integrity, and respect are my core values. In my professional life, I strive to create inclusive and empowering workplaces where employees can thrive, while holding myself accountable to ethical decision-making and collaborative problem-solving. Personally, I carry these same values into my relationships and daily life, embracing growth, learning, and compassion in everything I do.
