Magdalyn Swan is a Territory Business Manager at Advanced Diabetes Supply, where she helps patients and providers across Metro Detroit access vital diabetes technology, including continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), insulin pumps, and other essential medical supplies. Covering Wayne and Oakland counties, she works closely with primary care providers, endocrinologists, and care coordinators to streamline the referral process, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure patients receive timely access to the tools they need to manage their diabetes effectively. Her role is deeply rooted in service and advocacy, helping to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients navigating complex insurance and DME requirements.

Before transitioning into healthcare, Maggie spent a decade in the automotive industry, holding leadership roles such as Corporate Trainer and General Sales Manager, where she developed expertise in communication, training, and client relationship management. Her decision to switch industries was a personal one—motivated by her son’s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Experiencing firsthand the challenges of managing a chronic condition inspired her to pursue a career where she could make a real difference for other families facing similar journeys. Maggie holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwood University’s DeVos Graduate School (2017) and dual bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Management (2014) from Northwood University.

Beyond her professional achievements, Maggie is a breast cancer survivor and an active volunteer with Pink Ribbon Riders, an organization that raises funds for patients battling breast cancer. She finds joy in reading, snowmobiling, and cheering on her children at their sports events. Guided by gratitude and resilience, Maggie brings compassion, determination, and personal understanding to her work—turning her life experiences into a meaningful mission to help others thrive.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my ability to find the good in every negative situation. I believe that challenges are opportunities for growth, and maintaining a positive mindset allows me to learn, adapt, and move forward stronger than before.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to discover what makes me different and use that to become better. Embracing my unique strengths and perspectives has helped me stand out, add value, and continue growing both personally and professionally.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Always know your "why". I find great pleasure in knowing that I am helping people access extremely important technology and tools to manage a chronic illness that can be life changing. On a deeper and more personal level, my "why" is that we use these technologies in my own home to keep my son living a normal and healthy life. Knowing that some people depend on these tools to survive changes everything.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is that many patients are unable to access the care or treatments they desperately need due to high costs, insurance limitations, and a lack of knowledge about available resources. It can be difficult to help when navigating complex insurance systems. However, this challenge also presents an opportunity — by increasing education and awareness, we can empower patients to better understand their options and improve access to care.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, consistency, and optimism. I believe in being truthful and transparent in all that I do, staying dependable and committed to my goals, and maintaining a positive outlook even in challenging situations. These principles guide how I approach my relationships, decisions, and overall growth.
