Her Story

About Mallika

I have spent the past 10 years building my career in the utilities sector, where I have focused on project management, program management, compliance mitigation, customer relationships, and stakeholder management. My career journey has been one of continuous progression and intentional learning. I started as a P6 scheduler, then advanced to project scheduler, followed by roles as a technical advisor and project manager, which was my position until December 2025. As of 2026, I joined Deloitte as a Senior Consultant. As an immigrant who moved to the United States to pursue my career, I have always maintained a continuous improvement mindset rather than a know-it-all attitude. I believe that being intentional about learning and making conscious choices has been key to advancing through each role. My approach is rooted in authenticity, patience, and bringing genuine value to the table in both my personal and professional life.

Ten minutes with Mallika

01What do you attribute your success to?

When my daughter asked me what my superpower was, I told her being a mom is my superpower, because I think that has motivated me into the person that I want to be, both in my personal as well as professional life. Being authentic in what you bring to the table and being patient are the key aspects that I would look at from that perspective. I can't specifically point to one achievement, but if you see my career progression and collaboration, that's my huge achievement. I started as a scheduler, then as a technical advisor and program management, and now as a senior consultant. Trying to learn through each role and always being on a continuous improvement mindset rather than a know-it-all kind of attitude has helped me progress in my career.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Being intentional is the most important thing. Being intentional of learning, or being intentional of helping people, or being intentional of whatever it is. If you don't have the intent to learn, or you don't have the motivation inside of you, no matter how much your team, or your manager, or your coach, or whoever it is tries to motivate you, you wouldn't be able to advance in your career. So being intentional about it and being conscious about making the choices is the advice that I would give. I even tell my daughter, who is only young, to make sure that she asks herself, is this what you want to do? Make a conscious choice about it.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

At least in the utility sector, everything is moving towards renewable energies. Everything is shifting towards solar or wind, those kinds of energy sectors for the electricity that we use or gas that we use. But we don't have that infrastructure, right? If you want everybody to use solar, we don't have that infrastructure where the grid can bear that much of solar power that is being generated. So I think upgrading the grid is the most important aspect in the utility sector right now. Upgrading the infrastructure or grid is the most key aspect in the utility sector right now.
