Maria Stamoulis is an experienced Audit Manager at the New York State Education Department with over 5 years of experience in auditing. She has a background in managing internal audits, developing training programs, and collaborating across state and local government agencies. Maria is known for her ability to lead teams, design policies and procedures that improve operational efficiency, and build meaningful relationships with stakeholders. What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Embrace the travel that comes with auditing; taking on diverse audits accelerates your growth by showing how different organizations operate—their policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in auditing is retention. The travel and pace can lead to churn and constant retraining, yet the field remains full of opportunity—the demand for auditors consistently exceeds capacity.
