Melissa Darrington: Speaker: Melissa A Darrington, Founder & Clinical Systems Innovator, Happy Medium Hypnosis LLCMelissa A Darrington: It's about how we choose to show up for people every single day. What does being an Influential Woman mean to you?Melissa A Darrington: Hi, I'm Melissa Darrington, founder of Happy Medium Hypnosis. To me, influence is not about having the loudest voice or the biggest platform. It's about how we choose to show up for people every single day. I have worked in healthcare for over 25 years, and now I have the privilege of building happy medium hypnosis where I help people regulate their nervous systems and reconnect with themselves during some of life's most challenging moments. What I've learned is that influence is not about perfection. It's about continuing to learn. Continuing to grow and allowing our experiences, even the ones that aren't so good, to help us, to help the people that we are serving. If one conversation, one kind moment has the ability to make a difference in someone's life, then I feel that that is true influence. What's one piece of advice you would give to younger women chasing their dreams?Melissa A Darrington: Hello, I am Melissa Darrington, founder of Happy Medium Hypnosis, and today I'm here to give a little advice to those younger women out there who are chasing their dreams, to the future influential women who may be watching today, this is for you. All right? One thing I would say is don't think you have to have it all figured out before you begin. In fact, you're not going to have it all figured out before you begin. All right? It's about trusting yourself to take that next step, even if it seems like a small one. Some of the greatest growth that you're going to have is while you're in the process of learning. So be curious, all right? Keep learning. And keep showing up. Because you don't need to be worried about other people's journey, where they're going, their path, because the thing is, is your experiences is helping you to shape something that is uniquely yours. And in the future, years from now, you'll look back and you'll understand that all of these challenges were only helping to build the person that you were becoming. So keep dreaming, and keep rising. Thank you.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Melissa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to learning that capability isn’t the absence of pressure—it’s the ability to think clearly while pressure is present. My years in the operating room taught me that life isn’t always calm, but we can learn to remain centered, capable, and compassionate within it. That philosophy became the foundation of my work and ultimately inspired The CALM Protocol™, helping others build resilience without waiting for life to become easier.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve learned is that your greatest challenges often become your greatest qualifications. Every difficult experience taught me something that later became valuable to someone else. Rather than trying to erase those experiences, I chose to build something meaningful from them.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don’t wait until you feel completely ready before pursuing meaningful work.

Confidence is built through action, not perfection.

Stay curious, keep learning, and allow every challenge to strengthen your judgment rather than diminish your confidence.

The qualities that make you different may ultimately become your greatest contribution.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the greatest opportunities in healthcare today is recognizing that nervous system regulation is not simply about wellness—it is about human performance. We ask clinicians, first responders, executives, and educators to make exceptional decisions under extraordinary pressure. Giving them practical tools to recover, refocus, and maintain clarity isn’t just beneficial for the individual—it improves teamwork, decision-making, and ultimately the people they serve.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and my life are compassion, integrity, courage, and service. After more than 25 years in high-pressure operating rooms, I learned that true strength isn’t found in the absence of stress—it’s found in the ability to remain grounded, capable, and compassionate while navigating it. That belief has become the foundation of everything I do.

Whether I’m supporting a healthcare professional experiencing burnout or working with someone facing a personal challenge, my goal is the same: to help people reconnect with their own resilience. I believe every person deserves practical tools that restore clarity, confidence, and dignity, even in life’s most demanding moments. Helping others discover that capability within themselves is the greatest privilege of my work.
