Her Story

About Melony

I've been a coach for 20 years, and it's been a process, but it's been good. My journey has transitioned into the level I am at today. I work with clients virtually all over the world, whether that's via Zoom or on the telephone. Some days I'm speaking, other days I'm training and teaching a course. On the business side, I do a lot of networking and philanthropy work, working with different organizations on leadership and growth development. Sometimes I go in and work with a business and help them edit their operations and help them define what's going to make the best environment for the clients, or how to help each of their clients grow and reach their potential. I'm working a lot on leadership and creating signature systems and programs that work for each organization. I'm the founder of Courageous Beginnings, a nonprofit that's been running for about 10 years. I was also one of the top four finalists in something called Mission Seed Fund. On my business side, I'm focused on the Say Yes movement, which is about really helping entrepreneurs say yes to their God-given dreams and goals and learning how to say yes without creating burnout. I'm a faith-based business coach, and I 100% stand on God's Word. I'm not afraid to say that I got where I'm at because of God. I love helping people find a way and the resources, and know that nothing's impossible, and their vision, with the right resources and with what they're being called to, it is achievable and can be a reality. When someone has a God-sized goal that's so big that they don't know how they're gonna do it, but they just know that God's calling them and they need to say yes, he always makes a way. The one thing that I do is I really just help them figure out the different paths and how that can look, and help them connect with the right sources to make that a reality.

Ten minutes with Melony

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm very resilient. I have really invested myself in coaching and education and being in some elite programs, and really just doing the work. I think it's about consistency and commitment and not giving up. And helping people along the way, like not being afraid to let something go, but serving the right person, if you're not the right person, referring them to somebody who could help them better. You know, what I did 20 years ago, I would have never thought I'd be where I'm at today. I've not been afraid to ask for help. I've not been afraid to invest in myself, and I've not been afraid to give help to others. And I think that that has blessed me to be in an amazing community. We've grown together and experienced amazing things. Sometimes you don't understand why you go through one thing, a hard time, but God uses everything for His good. And I would say everything on my journey has been used for God's good, and it has allowed me to help other people to go through that and to make it easier for them, but also to find the gifts that I have and to share those with other people.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Pretty much you can do anything you set your mind to and just never give up. I think it's a really good thing, not being the smartest person in the room, so that you can always grow.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think right now, during COVID, everything went offline. So I think now everybody's starting to get back into networking and doing that. I would say the biggest thing for me is that I'm a faith-based business coach, and so the challenge is that I 100% stand on God's Word. And I'm not afraid to say that I got where I'm at because of God. And so some people don't want me to walk into a room and acknowledge God. And if I'm not in a room freely to speak about God, then that's a challenge for me. That may be, I'm not the right speaker or coach. Before COVID, I was hosting live events every month. I used to run the Christian Network, and so I hosted a live event every month, and I did a lot of speaking in person and traveling. So when COVID happened, I lost a large sum of money, just coaching contracts because of what happened, and then just pivoted and served things online as the best that I could. I did close down the Christian network during COVID because it just was not as sustainable as it was online. I think that's the challenge of it, like when I was hosting that, I was getting lots of referrals all the time in person. And now I have to work a little harder to market myself online or to get in front of the right person, where I was in rooms every month and there would be people paying to do that.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say integrity is really important to me. But just also, just a person who's loyal, putting God first. For me, I think the most important thing is putting God first and saying yes to where He's calling you, being obedient, and sometimes that's being really courageous and walking boldly when it doesn't always make sense, but he has the greatest plan, and when you give Him the glory, it's amazing the doors that can open.
