Her Story

About Michelle

Michelle K. Agard, M.A.Ed., is the proud mother of a brilliant 16-year-old son. It is her greatest accomplishment to date, and she gratefully acknowledges the unwavering support of her mother and family in his upbringing. Ronell, an aspiring athlete, remains the driving force behind Michelle’s focused life and enduring commitment to creating a legacy of purpose, service, and impact.

An Educational Strategist, educational administrator, consultant, and Founder and CEO of KB B.E.S.T. Educational Services and Brevard Academic Consulting Group, Michelle has dedicated 37 years to the field of education. Her professional journey officially began in 1989 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York (CUNY). However, she often says her passion for teaching began long before then, when she taught her dolls, teddy bears, and even older neighborhood friends as a child.

Originally entering college as a pre-med major to fulfill her mother’s wishes, Michelle ultimately followed her true calling and changed her major to education, revealing her decision to her mother during her senior year. Her mother’s response would become a guiding principle for the rest of her life: “You had better be the best teacher you can be.” Those words shaped Michelle’s lifelong commitment to educational excellence, leadership, and service. Michelle earned a Master of Arts in Education from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and later completed advanced graduate studies in Educational Leadership at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus while pregnant with her only child, Ronell Michael. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education Policy, Leadership, and Management at Walden University.

Throughout her career, Michelle has served in a variety of educational, administrative, and leadership roles across the United States and the Caribbean. Over the last decade, she has had the opportunity to lecture at the University of the Southern Caribbean and to contribute to literacy development, youth sport, community development, and educational advancement initiatives throughout her beloved Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She worked alongside national leaders, including the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Minister of Sport and Community Development. She helped spearhead youth development and empowerment initiatives in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister.

In 2024, Michelle accepted the position of Education Policy and Planning Manager at the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture of the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands. In this role, she focused on policy development, strategic planning, educational monitoring and evaluation, and systemic improvement. During her tenure, she championed data-driven initiatives designed to strengthen educational outcomes and build regional capacity. Together with the Policy and Planning Unit team, stakeholder relationships were strengthened across the education sector, and national engagement around data-informed decision-making was significantly enhanced.

The Turks and Caicos Islands received recognition from UNESCO for excellence in educational data improvement efforts. State-of-the-art interactive Educational Statistical Digests were produced, modernizing how educational information was presented and understood, and creating one of the first initiatives of its kind within the Caribbean region. Michelle’s commitment to reducing dependence on foreign consultancies by strengthening internal systems and local expertise helped build national data capacity and sustainability. The team also advanced educational awareness and accountability through initiatives and themes such as “Data-Driven Education = TCI Strong” and “Strategizing for Impact: Teaching, Empowerment, Accountability.”

A CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Certified Educator, Michelle remains deeply passionate about ensuring that education never becomes disconnected from the students it is intended to serve. Alongside her leadership work, she continues teaching and working directly with children through her flagship company, KB B.E.S.T. Educational Services. She recently expanded her scope of educational influence through the launch of Brevard Academic Consulting Group, an emerging organization dedicated to empowering students and families with the confidence, literacy, and educational support necessary to transform potential into achievement and opportunity into lasting success.

As a dedicated advocate for literacy and equitable educational systems, Michelle often reminds students, parents, and educators that “Readers Become Leaders,” emphasizing reading, writing, listening, and speaking as interconnected skills that empower individuals to thrive academically and throughout life. Michelle believes education is humanity’s most powerful tool for transforming potential into purpose, opportunity into achievement, and learning into lasting impact.

Her membership and participation in organizations such as the International Literacy Association, the African Women’s Association of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Heal-a-ton Foundation reflect her commitment to advancing lifelong learning, educational equity, community empowerment, and service to causes close to her heart. Looking ahead, Michelle’s goal is to make literacy come alive for students and individuals who struggle in that area, beginning at the elementary level and expanding her impact throughout Florida, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Drawing upon more than three decades of educational leadership and a transformative decade of service throughout the United States & The Caribbean, Michelle developed The MAGNIFICENCE™ Framework—a leadership and personal development philosophy that helps women expand their influence, honor their identity, and create lasting impact without sacrificing their well-being, authenticity, or purpose.

Behind every accomplishment in Michelle’s life stands a resilient mother, exceptional mentors, and educators who dared to invest in her potential. Today, she strives to honor their influence by helping others discover their own. She believes the most meaningful legacy is not what we achieve for ourselves, but what we inspire in those who follow.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Michelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to faith, perseverance, lifelong learning, and the unwavering support of the people who believed in me long before I fully understood my own potential. My mother taught me the value of education, discipline, and service, while exceptional mentors and educators invested in my growth and challenged me to pursue excellence. I also attribute my success to purpose. Whether serving as a teacher, educational leader, policymaker, consultant, entrepreneur, or mother, I have remained committed to using education as a tool to transform lives and create opportunities for others. Every challenge, setback, and triumph has reinforced my belief that success is not measured solely by personal achievement, but by the positive impact we have on the lives of those we serve.

Above all, my son Ronell inspires me to keep growing, leading, and building. He reminds me daily that our greatest accomplishments are not what we achieve for ourselves, but the legacy we create for future generations.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my mother. As a college student, I entered university as a pre-med major because I wanted to fulfill my dream. When I finally found the courage to tell her that I had changed my major to education, I expected disappointment. Instead, she simply looked at me and said, “You had better be the best teacher you can be.”Those words became much more than career advice—they became a lifelong standard for excellence. They taught me that success is not about pursuing someone else’s vision for your life; it is about discovering your purpose and committing yourself to it wholeheartedly. Whether serving as a teacher, educational leader, policymaker, consultant, entrepreneur, or mother, I have carried those words with me and have always strived to give my very best in service to others. More than three decades later, I still consider that simple piece of advice one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering education and educational leadership is never to underestimate the power of your voice, your preparation, or your purpose.

Education is more than a profession—it is an opportunity to shape lives, strengthen communities, and influence the future. Commit yourself to lifelong learning, seek out mentors who will challenge and support you, and do not be afraid to pursue leadership opportunities, even when you feel uncertain. Growth often begins where comfort ends.

Most importantly, remember that excellence and authenticity can coexist. You do not have to sacrifice who you are to become who you are meant to be. Lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and remain focused on the students and communities you are called to impact. The titles may change throughout your career, but your purpose should remain constant.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Throughout my career, I have been drawn to opportunities that allow me to use education as a force for empowerment, healing, and positive change. My work as an Educational Consultant with the Heal-a-ton Foundation (2016–Present), a nonprofit organization committed to eradicating the abuse of women and children in Trinidad and Tobago, is one example of that commitment in action.

This experience reaffirmed something I have always believed: people are far more likely to thrive when empowered than when merely rescued. Education, support, and opportunity give individuals the confidence to reclaim their voice, recognize their value, and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Whether I am working with children, families, educators, or communities, my goal remains the same—to help people see their potential, strengthen their capacity, and believe in the possibilities ahead of them. For me, education is not simply about acquiring knowledge; it is about transforming lives.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, service, excellence, faith, and love.

Integrity is the foundation of my leadership. It guides my decisions, shapes my character, and ensures that my actions remain aligned with my principles. Service fuels my commitment to education, community development, and creating opportunities that improve others' lives. Excellence is a standard instilled in me by my mother and one that I have carried throughout my career. Whatever I choose to do, I believe it should be done with purpose, professionalism, and a commitment to the highest standards.

Faith has sustained me through challenges, transitions, and new opportunities, providing the resilience and perspective needed to persevere and grow. Love influences how I lead, teach, mentor, and build relationships, reminding me that lasting impact is achieved when competence is paired with compassion.

Whether serving as a mother, educator, educational leader, entrepreneur, or advocate, these values remain at the center of who I am. They shape my decisions, define my leadership, and inspire my commitment to empowering others, strengthening communities, and leaving a legacy of purpose, service, and positive impact for future generations.
