Her Story

About Nina

I currently work as a lead generating specialist at a media company headquartered in Brentwood, California. My career path has been unconventional but has given me incredible depth in sales, marketing, and customer service. I started in hospitality, bartending in Las Vegas where I learned the art of face-to-face customer service and building genuine connections with people. When I became a single mother in 2020, I made a complete career transition into digital marketing and sales. I began with Angie's List doing cold calling and lead generation, where I learned that authenticity is the key to sales success. I threw away the scripts and started having real, genuine conversations with clients, which transformed my results. I was then recruited to Yelp, where I sold digital advertising across every business category imaginable, from restaurants to dog walking services to home services. My fluency in Vietnamese became a tremendous asset, opening doors to work with enterprise accounts and multi-location businesses across different regions. I moved to WebMD where I worked with medical providers and learned the complete sales cycle from prospecting to close. Now, at my current company, I work with both digital and print advertising, and I've discovered there's a whole demographic that values traditional print media alongside digital marketing. I love the hybrid nature of my current role because it gives me human interaction beyond just being in my home office. Throughout my career, I've specialized in lead-generating platforms and helping businesses grow through strategic marketing and advertising solutions.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to authenticity and being genuine in every conversation. When I coach and train salespeople now, they ask me what's the one thing I could advise them on, and I tell them all the time: authenticity. You've got to be genuine and authentic. When they ask how do you do that, I say you just do. You just are. If you're thinking so structurally about the process of sales and you're not actually talking to the person like a human, you're not listening to their needs, you're not invested in that conversation right then and there, you're focused on a commission, you're not present, you're not authentic. My success started coming when I was becoming more authentic, and I would laugh, and I would mess up, and I would goof around, and I threw the script away, because I realized the more I had a script, the more I was messing up. I understood the platform and then just had real conversations with people. I also learned to celebrate my wins and consistently try to stop and think, hey, like, a month or a year ago, this wasn't you. You weren't even here, so celebrate the fact that you got here.
