Her Story
About Nora
I began my career in the banking sector, working with Stanbic Bank Ghana before transitioning into public service. I started working with the New York State Senate Office in September of last year, where I currently work with Senator Jeremy Coney representing the Rochester community in New York. In my role, I focus on drafting bills, meeting with stakeholders, and attending conferences and sessions where bills are explained. My transition from the private sector to the public sector has been one of my most notable achievements, as it has allowed me to see the dynamics of how things are done in these different entities with regards to client response, meeting with people, learning, and self-development. I'm really interested in public-private partnerships because I know that the government or the public sector can't handle human wants alone, neither can the private sector handle everything. It's always interesting to know how these entities come together to shape communities and provide the best of services to society. I have this mindset going out every day to just change the world through the work I do.

Ten minutes with Nora
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God for the direction, for the strength, for every guidance. I also attribute it to my teachers and professors, and then my family, because I'm the first lady amongst my three siblings to even finish undergrad, then continue with Masters, and then come in here having my graduate studies outside my country. I attribute my success and everything also to my professional mentors, both in Stanbic Bank Ghana, my manager, and then my family as well. I can't say everything because the list is a lot.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You are hardworking, you can do whatever that you want. You are smart. You keep changing lives.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Knowing that everything is possible to attain, and while doing that, they should try to carry everyone along, especially those that they find themselves working with.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I always have access to the resources that I need, especially with the people that I'm working with. They are very supportive. One other opportunity that I leverage on is the willingness of the team members to teach and to coach. The environment is very diverse and conducive.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is most important to me, along with being adaptable and growth. I wish to see myself grow and change everyone at wherever that I am, regardless of the space I find myself. So I believe in growth, integrity, adaptability, and to be able to resonate with every little piece of work that I find myself with, and even different people that I find in the midst of.
