About Olivia
Right after college, I moved to a ski town near Wyoming thinking I just wanted to ski and work whatever job would allow me to ski during the day, but I found that really unfulfilling. That sparked my ambition because I wanted a really fulfilling job. I started working in a hydroponic greenhouse where I got to take notes in meetings across different industries, and I learned that the sales meetings were what I was most excited about. I then started doing sales for a local granola bar company, which was partially remote and partially in person, giving me an introduction to remote work that I really liked. I sold more there than anyone ever had in that position. I realized I really wanted to keep doing both sales and remote work since I'm in such a rural place, so I started applying for fully remote sales positions. I ended up at Yelp in September 2022 from a referral from someone I went to high school with. I didn't plan to stay for a really long time, but I did really well as a sales rep and eventually took on a team 2 years ago. Now I manage 10 sales reps and find it really fulfilling. I'm definitely a newer manager learning a lot about how to push people and challenge them to become better versions of themselves, and learning how to be more direct. I also have a TikTok that I'm really excited about centered around sales and leadership, focused on empowering women, which is where I'm getting a lot of fulfillment outside of work.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The main thing for me right now is I'm definitely a people pleaser, so as a leader, I am honestly too empathetic sometimes with how my team's gonna feel about what I'm saying, instead of focusing on being really direct and having conversations with them that don't necessarily feel good in the moment, but are gonna help them grow longer term. I'm really trying to see the results of harder conversations and why that's so important, and try not to put so much emotion into everything. But I think as women, it's hard to - it's like a strength, too, to have so much emotion, so I think finding the balance between those two things has been the main thing I'm working on right now.
