What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to justice. In family law, I’ve found that combining deep legal knowledge with truly listening to clients and understanding their unique situations is key to achieving meaningful outcomes. Building my firm, Oldfield Law, has allowed me to provide high-quality representation for families and children in complex cases, and being a certified child welfare law specialist has been central to guiding families through some of their most challenging moments.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to “advocate fiercely, but never lose your humanity.” Throughout my career, mentors have emphasized the importance of balancing passion with professionalism, and I strive to model that same balance for the associates and junior attorneys I mentor today.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering the legal field to recognize their equal capability and never underestimate their own strength. Approach every case with confidence, thorough preparation, and compassion, while maintaining professional detachment to protect your emotional well-being. Remember: you belong here, and your voice carries the same weight as anyone else’s.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in family law is managing client emotions while maintaining objectivity. At the same time, there’s a significant opportunity to raise the standard of legal advocacy, ensuring families receive the same high-quality representation seen in other areas of law. My goal is to grow my firm in a way that allows me to move from performing legal work myself to guiding and mentoring the next generation of attorneys.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, fairness, and compassion are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I strive to uphold the highest ethical standards while maintaining empathy for the families and individuals I represent. Outside of work, I prioritize family and balance—spending time with my husband of 31 years, our two sons who play hockey, and enjoying outdoor activities with our pets.
