Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sharon
01What do you attribute your success to?
I contribute my success to my family, because they're hardworking and they push me to excel, to be the best in what I do, and also to do the best I can be and be the best I can be. Hard work, dedication, and perseverance are the values that have guided me throughout my career. My family modeled a strong work ethic that inspired me to always give my all and strive for excellence in everything I do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to remain committed to my work, continue learning, and never lose sight of why I started. I believe that genuine passion and dedication consistently lead to meaningful, lasting impact.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say hard work, dedication, and give all you can to the students that you are teaching. Pour into them all the knowledge that you can so they can be successful. And then when they're successful, they can look back and say, oh, my teacher helped me, you know? That's what it's all about - making sure you're pouring everything you have into your students so they can achieve their goals and remember the impact you made on their lives.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field right now are getting the students to stay on task and to complete their work. A lot of them can't read, so getting them to read and actually close the gaps in those things that they're limited in - that's what we're trying to do right now. On the flip side, the opportunities in the field are actually seeing a student grow. That's what I look for - seeing a student happy and actually getting their goals, setting their goals and achieving them. That's the most rewarding part of what I do.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are hard work, dedication, and perseverance. These are the principles that guide everything I do, both professionally and personally. I believe in giving all you can and pouring all the knowledge you have into the people you serve, especially the students I work with. My family instilled these values in me - they're hardworking and have always pushed me to excel and be the best I can be in everything I do.
