Her Story
About Sherra
I have been working in my field for over 20 years, and I've been in my current role in project management for 6 years. My career journey has taken me from customer service to call center management, then to help desk management, and finally to project management. One of my most notable professional achievements was managing 5 call centers at one time. What inspired me to go into this field was the challenge - knowing that it was a challenge, it was something new to me, and I was up for it. The harder that it was going to become, the more I wanted it, because I felt like I could conquer the world through prayer and faith. My typical day involves logging in at 7 a.m. every morning central time, reviewing our project plan, making sure everything is set up there, and then it's call after call after call, and meeting after meeting with our team, making sure everything is aligned correctly. I work virtually, conducting all my meetings online. In my work, what's most important to me is being organized, anticipating the needs of our clients, and just being there to resolve any issues that they have come up.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sherra
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, because I was a teenage mother, I always wanted better for my children, so I studied hard and worked hard to show my children that they could do better, could do more, go further than I did. They exceeded my expectations - they exceeded myself and my husband's expectations. Everything I did, I did for the sake of my children, seeing me do something and making sure they were proud of me. Recently, as of June 28th, 2025, I became a Gold Star Mother, which is a parent of military personnel that has passed away on active duty. When I lost my oldest, it opened my mind to what I wanted to accomplish in life, and I kind of had to refocus on what I'm going to do now. I'm still working on that, honestly, but through prayer and faith, I felt like I could conquer the world.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Always serve with a velvet glove instead of an iron fist.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay focused. Place more focus on your goals instead of the naysayers. Hear them out, accept constructive criticisms, and always stay focused on your goals.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
For me personally, unfortunately, as of June 28th, 2025, I became a Gold Star Mother, which is a parent of military personnel that has passed away on active duty. I lost one of my oldest, and that kind of fit me into a whirlwind to where I was trying to figure out what's my next step. It opened my mind to what I wanted to accomplish in life, because everything I did, I did for the sake of my children - seeing me do something, making sure they were proud of me. When I lost them, I kind of had to refocus, like, what am I going to do now? I'm fairly young, and I'm having to revamp everything, rethink everything, and I'm still working on that now, honestly.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In my personal life, the most important thing to me is making sure I am balancing work along with my family time, to make sure I am giving as much time to both of them as I possibly can, and being focused in every moment. When I'm with my family, I'm there in that moment and not preoccupied with something different. At work, I would say being organized, anticipating the needs of our clients, and just being there to resolve any issues that they have come up.
