Her Story

About Sonya

With nearly a decade of experience in human resources, recruiting, and workforce development, Sonya has built a career centered on helping people create better opportunities for themselves and their families. As a Client Development Manager specializing in manufacturing and logistics staffing, she combines talent acquisition expertise with business development skills to connect employers with qualified professionals while helping individuals advance their careers.

Sonya's journey began in human resources, where her natural business acumen and passion for helping others drew her to the profession. Inspired by her mother's successful career in talent acquisition, she quickly discovered that workforce development offered the perfect blend of relationship-building, problem-solving, and meaningful impact.

Today, Sonya manages staffing operations for multiple client locations, overseeing more than 40 employees across several job sites while also driving new business growth. Her role requires balancing client relationships, employee management, operational problem-solving, and sales strategy—an environment where she has thrived despite initially viewing sales as intimidating. What once seemed outside her comfort zone has become one of her greatest strengths, and she now credits her success to embracing challenges and continuously pushing herself to grow.

A graduate of Westwood College with a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management and a minor in Business Administration, Sonya earned her degree while working full-time, raising a family, and overcoming significant personal challenges. Her educational journey strengthened the resilience and determination that continue to define her professional approach today.

Throughout her career, Sonya has faced adversity head-on, including multiple corporate restructurings and layoffs. Rather than allowing setbacks to define her, she used them as opportunities to grow stronger, sharpen her skills, and pursue new opportunities. She believes that perseverance, preparation, and continuous self-improvement are the keys to long-term success.

One of the most influential figures in her career has been her mentor, Tequila Florence, a former regional leader who helped shape her professional development. Through guidance, accountability, and encouragement, Florence challenged Sonya to see her full potential and develop the communication, leadership, and business skills that have contributed to her success.

Looking ahead, Sonya is pursuing her HRBP certification and continuing to expand her expertise in human resources and workforce strategy. She remains committed to lifelong learning and believes that growth comes from being willing to ask questions, seek guidance, and embrace new challenges.

Outside of her professional life, Sonya enjoys writing poetry, exploring nature through walking trails, restoring and reupholstering furniture, and continuously learning new skills. Whether studying coding, financial markets, or practical life skills, she embraces what she jokingly calls "YouTube University" as a way to keep growing and expanding her knowledge.

When asked what advice she would give to young women entering her industry, Sonya's answer is simple: have integrity, take advantage of every learning opportunity, and never be afraid to ask for what you want. She believes that success is built through persistence, preparation, and the courage to keep moving forward—even when the path is uncertain.

Her guiding philosophy is one she lives every day: never give up, continue planting seeds, and trust that consistent effort will eventually produce results.
