Her Story

About Spandana

I've been in the med tech field for around 3 years, with 5 years total experience in healthcare. As a senior data analyst, I manage data, create semantic models, and develop dashboards and reports for multiple teams including leadership, marketing, finance, and compensation. I work closely with the sales team on sales analytics, compensation, and quota calculations, and collaborate with global teams on back-end data projects. Currently, I'm focused on AI projects, specifically working with agent API. My healthcare background comes from my Doctor of Pharmacy degree from India, where I gained clinical experience through internships and prior work. I later transitioned to data analytics by earning my Master's in Health Informatics from Northeastern University. I'm passionate about staying within healthcare because I see how impactful our products are for patients through testimonials from our sales reps who work in hospitals. I feel that the work I do enables the sales reps, making me part of what they're doing to help patients.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is don't wait for it to be perfect, because whether it's your resume or a tool you don't know or you're just learning, there is no perfection. You just learn on the job. Another piece of advice that stuck with me is that everyone's trying to figure it out, no one knows anything, so just go and try your best.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say just take the first opportunity, even if you're not completely familiar with the tools. As I said before, you can always learn the tools on your job, and that is how you get better at it. You cannot just wait for the perfect moment. You'll have to grab the opportunity and work on it.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Our biggest challenge right now as a data analyst is AI. I think it is very important to upskill yourself into the AI part of it. I am currently working on projects that are more in a somewhat gray area, but I'm also trying to push myself so that my career progression is towards AI. AI is one of the challenging parts, specifically in healthcare.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think communication is important, because I do deal with sales reps who might not always be tech-savvy. Whatever reports we create, we want to make sure that they understand and use them efficiently, not just when they have their laptop on themselves. We also try to create tools which they can use from their phone, whichever makes their life easier and makes it easier for them to do the pitch when they're meeting with our partners or going for a new sales call. Communication is very important.
