Her Story
About Stephanie
I've been in healthcare for 25 years, and it's been an incredible journey. I started out doing staffing for the whole hospital, then moved into the OR where I did billing and scheduling for 20 years. I eventually became the lead surgery scheduler for 3 sites. When I was in my 40s, I made the decision to go back to school, which was very hard and intimidating, but I earned my bachelor's degree in healthcare business management in a little over 3 years with a 3.9 GPA. I was also inducted into the National Society for Leadership and Success, which was a tremendous honor. As a teenage mom, achieving this degree was especially meaningful because it showed that making mistakes when you're young doesn't mean your whole life has to be defined by them. Since November 3rd of last year, I've been serving as Supervisor of Clinic Operations, where I oversee family medicine, pediatrics, and endocrinology departments with 34 direct reports including nurses, MAs, and PSRs. My days involve morning huddles, rounding through the clinic to connect with my teammates, and managing various meetings and investigations. I find this career very rewarding because I enjoy helping people, and it's just what I love to do.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say that the sky's the limit. Like, never underestimate yourself. It is a very rewarding career, in my opinion. I enjoy it. I enjoy helping people, and it's just what I love.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think sometimes it can be challenging being a woman in the healthcare field. You know, there are older doctors that still don't always respect women in the way they should. It's a little bit harder, and you have to work a little harder to prove that just because you're a woman doesn't mean you don't know what you're talking about or can't lead.
