Susannah Miah Santos is a driven business student at Mississippi State University, where she is pursuing a double major in Supply Chain Logistics and Spanish. Her interest in supply chain began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when a high school vocational course introduced her to the critical role logistics plays in moving products from production to consumers. What started as curiosity quickly became a clear career path, combining her passion for business with a growing interest in efficiency, organization, and problem-solving within complex systems.

Originally from Pascagoula, Mississippi, Susannah comes from a family of entrepreneurs whose bilingual staffing company supports shipbuilding industries along the Gulf Coast. Growing up in that environment shaped her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to balance multiple priorities. She credits her mother as a major influence, learning firsthand the importance of discipline, time management, and perseverance. These values continue to guide her as she builds her own path, with aspirations of stepping into leadership roles where she can improve operations and create more streamlined, effective processes.

Beyond academics, Susannah is deeply engaged in her community and personal passions. She is actively involved in her church, participating in worship choirs and community outreach efforts, including supporting local shelters and donation initiatives. Looking ahead, she plans to study abroad and explore global opportunities that combine her logistics expertise with her Spanish language skills. While her long-term career path is still evolving, she is committed to making a meaningful impact—bringing innovation, leadership, and a people-centered approach to every organization she becomes a part of.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I would definitely attribute my drive and success to God himself, as well as my mother. She's definitely had quite a journey herself. She went to university in Puerto Rico, which is where my family is originally from, and she's held down a business with my father. My parents started a staffing company to work with shipbuilding companies on the coast of Mississippi because they kept hearing that their friends could not get any jobs. So they work bilingually in English and Spanish with all clientele. I've definitely learned a lot from her work ethic, how to manage my time well, how to balance work and life and personal and fun, as well as being diligent to your work, making sure you stay with deadlines, making sure all your paperwork is correct, all these things. I see my future in my mother, but I also aim to be better than her. I know that with the way that she is, and how strong she is, and how far she's made it, and raising me in that same kind of way, to have those same elements, to have that same drive, I just want to be better than her, so that I can also excel her in her own right.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

God is definitely very, very, very important to me. I'm very involved with my church and attend three times a week in my hometown and at my university. I participate in the college worship choir at the university and in the Sunday morning choir with my hometown church. I also like to express myself through my vocality, both speaking and singing, at karaoke nights and music festivals. I know to separate business and religion because not everyone has the same religion, but my faith is central to who I am. From my mother, I've learned the importance of work ethic, managing time well, balancing work and life and personal and fun, being diligent to your work, staying with deadlines, and making sure all your paperwork is correct. I want to be able to improve whatever company I'm at and bring my skills to the table to simplify the process and make it more convenient and simpler.
