About Tamara
I've been working in business and community development since my 20s, and I'm going to be 61 this year. I was a mover and shaker in the Huntsville area, representing huge corporations and doing international, national, regional, and local advertising. I was a member and ambassador for all the chambers and was involved politically - I knew the mayors and current representatives. My name, Tamara Watts, was a brand in the state of Alabama and nationally. I did community development work professionally, and my last gig was with a non-profit blood bank where we were responsible for 98% of the blood supply in North Alabama. I was also a patient advocate for multiple sclerosis and was getting ready to set up a podcast for that work. I have a master's in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I'm not licensed - I only use it in my volunteer work. I've been out of the loop for about 12 years in this market because I was raising my 5 children, who were all athletes. My last one just finished his sophomore year at university on the Dean's role list. Now I run a small historic equine farm just outside of Huntsville and do horse rescue. I used to be interviewed on the radio all the time and was a morning guest show person on at least 3 radio stations a week. I've mentored both young women and young men, starting with some kids when they were in kindergarten and helping them through university graduation. I've helped small businesses grow and have helped create some huge ones. I've won Addie's and been given community service awards as a volunteer over the years.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
One of my mottos is give a helping hand up - it's not a handout, it's a hand up. I love to mentor and lift people up. I've mentored both young women and young men, starting with some of these kids when they were in kindergarten and helping them graduate university. I love helping folks, and that's one of the things I really love the most - helping mentor and helping folks in all areas. I'm not the kind of person who wants to brag and put awards up on a shelf and get my picture taken. I'm more about leading the charge on things that are important. Bragging is considered poor form to me - your accomplishments and what you do, that's what's important. I definitely lead the charge on things, but I'm not about bragging.
