Her Story
About Tania
I started my career in printing technology, where I spent 11-12 years after getting my degree in that field. I worked at one company for about 8 years and then a few more years at another, but the hours - third shift and early mornings working with newspapers - didn't fit with being a mother after we had our son. So I decided to pivot and started at Chase as a part-time teller when my son wasn't even a year old yet. I wasn't there a year before I fell in love with it and started learning and doing more things to grow within the company. I've been here ever since, and just got my bachelor's in business administration with Chase's help. Now I work full-time in business banking, where I love working with small businesses in the community and helping them focus on growing their business in the financial space. My typical day involves meeting with clients every 90 days, whether in person, on the phone, taking them out to lunch, or meeting at their place of business where they shine. I help manage and mitigate fraud alerts, stay up to date with changes in the industry, and make sure my clients are prepared for what's coming. I go through my book every day to make sure I haven't missed anyone, and we set times to get together and go through their accounts and business needs. My area of expertise is working with business clients on communication and meeting their needs, whether it's cash management, credit, merchant services, or anything to help streamline their business and make it more efficient.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the support of my family, because a lot of the stuff I've done, I would not have been able to do it without their support. My husband and son had to pick up a lot of slack, especially when I was working on my degree while learning a new position. I also credit my mentors and the people I surround myself with. Having the right people around you is so important. I've had a lot of mentors along the way that encouraged me, especially when I was second-guessing myself. I put myself in a place to be around those people by networking and going to different events, often on my own. Having those mentors and people with like minds in the field that you're wanting to grow in, that you can always go and talk to or get advice from, has really helped me move my career along.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is that if you don't put yourself out there, then you're never gonna know. If you see an opportunity, you should definitely go for it, even if it's scary, because you don't want to miss out on that opportunity just because of a personal fear. It's always good to just put yourself out there and go for what you want, and work through the fear or the uncertainty, because that's always going to be there.
