Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tanya
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is largely due to necessity, but more importantly, I have a drive to help others. I think it's really about taking care of others and helping them, and even though accounting doesn't seem like it's a helping profession, everybody in the company relies on you. You're helping other teams figure out what's going on, track their expenses, or do analytics for operations. You're really into everything, and that's what drives me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would absolutely tell her to, if she's going into the professional field, do internships every summer at college and learn what you actually like and want to do. Don't get pigeonholed into one area of business or accounting or whatnot. If they could get any sort of cohort where they bring you into a company and you get to do 3 or 4 locations over the course of 2 years or something, that would be really helpful as well. Something that would give them more well-rounded views of the different options in their field.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think the biggest opportunity and challenge, both, is adopting AI. I think figuring out how to use AI in a safe way where your data's not being used, you know, and making it work the way that you want it to. I really feel like AI is the biggest opportunity and challenge in the field.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think honesty and integrity are most important to me, and those kind of go together. Being transparent, having open communication, and being really who you are is very important to me. I don't know if that's a value, but being genuinely yourself is critical. Like, if you're yourself, I'll like you. If you're pretending to be someone else, I probably won't.
