Making the right choice for my future
From Retail Pharmacy to Purposeful Parenthood: A Journey of Love, Courage, and Professional Growth
After eight years in a challenging retail pharmacy environment, I made the difficult decision to prioritize my safety and well-being. There had been several pharmacy robberies in my area involving drug seekers, and the pharmacy where I worked had been targeted multiple times. I transitioned to a mail-order pharmacy, which offered a less stressful work environment.
When that opportunity ended in 2019 right before COVID, I faced an important decision: return to my previous field or pursue a new path that would allow me to work from home while my youngest son was still young and not yet in elementary school. At the time, adequate childcare options were not available until he began attending school.
We Opened Our Hearts and Home
You see, in 2017, we opened our hearts and home to two young boys who needed a safe and loving environment. The decision to adopt them was not easy, but the thought of them being separated was unbearable.
We knew we could provide them with a loving and stable home. Although we are African American and the boys are Caucasian, we understood that our differences might present challenges. However, the obstacles we faced both before and after their adoption were more significant than we anticipated. We met each one with courage, patience, and determination.
The constant stares, questioning looks, and even encounters with law enforcement reminded us that our family did not always fit society's expectations. Yet our love for our children has always remained unwavering.
The love and joy they bring into our lives fill me with gratitude every day. I am their mother, and I will always be there for them - protecting them, guiding them, and nurturing them. Our bond is unbreakable, and I cherish the moments when they call me "Beautiful the Queen." It is a title I wear with pride.
A Career That Allows Me to Provide
Not only am I blessed with my beautiful family, but I also have a career that allows me to provide for my children. After applying for a full-time position and choosing ASI, I quickly realized that this decision would be life-changing.
My current role has provided not only financial stability but also a renewed sense of purpose. It is the most rewarding and fulfilling job I have ever had, and I am committed to building a long-term career here.
Looking back, I would not have made any other choice. ASI has given me stability, purpose, and an opportunity to continue growing professionally while supporting the family I love.
