The Writer of My Own Story: Why I’m Choosing to Climb, Not Just Reach
From Language Barriers to Leadership: A Journey of Confidence, Resilience, and Cultural Connection
The Language of Confidence
When I first arrived in the U.S. from India, I faced a wall: I couldn’t understand the language, and people couldn’t understand me. I decided then that English is just a medium of communication, not a measure of my worth.
Even today, my pronunciation isn’t perfect, but I have never shut myself away. I lead operations for more than 1,000 field and corporate team members—not because my grammar is perfect, but because my confidence is.
I have applied this same philosophy to my 8-year-old son. While he is growing up in America, I have made sure he speaks our native language so he can communicate deeply with his grandparents, my sister, and our extended family back home. I want him to have that bond without a gap.
Why a Full Plate Is a Blessing
In my current role at Product Connections (Acosta), people often say, “Anindita, your plate is full.” My answer is simple: a full plate is better than an empty one.
I remember the six years I spent waiting for my work authorization—the “empty plate” years. That memory still drives me. It’s why I dive into my MBA studies after work and why I used my “gap years” to found Learn and Giggle, an international platform that grew to 300 members.
The most important thing on my plate is my family. I never liked cooking, but I taught myself to make authentic Indian food because my son loves it. I spend as much time as possible with him to keep him connected to our culture and less dependent on the digital world.
My success isn’t just about my KPIs; it’s about my son telling me he is proud of me.
Climbing the Tree
I believe that when you are climbing a tree quickly, you must be prepared to fall. But if you fall, you don’t hit the ground—you simply hold on to a different branch and start climbing again.
My career has been a series of these branches:
The First Branch: Starting as an assistant preschool teacher and rising to Head of Department.
The Pivot: Returning to India to care for my mother and breaking into the corporate world as a Business Analyst.
The Technical Leap: Pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications to master SQL, Power Automate, and Generative AI, enabling me to re-enter the U.S. workforce with strength.
I Am the Writer
I am not at the top of the mountain yet. I am still in the middle of the climb, balancing corporate life with teaching drama and dance to children in the Bentonville community.
Though miles apart, I remain deeply connected to my parents, my in-laws, and my sister through a bond that time and distance cannot break.
My advice to any woman who feels like an “outsider” is this: do not focus on outside noise. If you see others moving at a different pace on LinkedIn, view them as inspiration—not comparison. Your story is yours alone.
I am the writer.
I am the creator.
And I am just getting started.
